Recently I heard an economics fellow say that Americans will change their driving habits only when the price of a gallon reaches $6.00.

Actually, I've already noticed that I'm getting tailgated a lot less. I'm one of those annoying people who drives the speed limit just to piss people off. We've always had to be fairly frugal drivers because it's so far to town. No jumping in the car to go get a pizza or pack of smokes.
I've located a source for biodiesel for my trucks that I can get for 2.90 a gallon, so that's helping a lot. It's made locally and all I have to do is remember to show up with my barrels on the day the tanker delivers it to my friend's trucking company yard. Had to convert the fuel lines on the three pickups and the old Mercedes to handle the biodiesel, but at a buck and a quarter a gallon savings, I'll pay for the conversion in a couple of months.
Americans have this strange notion that we have a god given right to cheap fuel. We're reaping the consequences of that position little by little.
