Is it appropriate to give your loan officer a gift? She has been very pleasant and helpful. I know of something she collects that I see on Ebay. I was thinking of sending her a thank you card after the closing and then after the construction on my house is finished, then giving her a gift. I had thought of sending a flower arrangement to her at the bank, but other people there have been involved too but to a much lesser degree. I didn't want to step on any toes. What do you all think, have you done something like this before?

Good Morning Hammerchick -
What a lovely, thoughtful idea. I think she would be thrilled by your special gift. It's nice that you have become aware of something she collects that would be personally enjoyed by her.
We also felt we'd been given service 'above and beyond' the norm, by a loan officer, and presented her with a gift certificate for dinner for two at a special restaurant.

You should also send a letter to the bank manager thanking all the staff for their help---but highlighting the help and professionalism that the loan officer gave to you.....looks good when it is time for a promotion.

As a Trust Officer at a bank, I can tell you that your loan officer would be THRILLED to receive a token of someone's appreciation. You're very thoughtful!

Where I work, the rule is an employee is not allowed to accept a gift from a customer unless it can be shared with the staff. So, a personal gift is not okay, but a basket of fruit, or a large box of candy, etc., can be accepted and then put out for all the staff to enjoy if they wish.
Since you mentioned that other people had been involved, then I would definitely send a "sharing" gift to that person and her staff.

Hi Hammerchick,
I applaud your thoughtfulness.
I agree with the suggestions of Zazzie and njrazd. I particularaly like njrazd's suggestion.
I am a retired executive secretary to the Executive VP, Sr. VPs and VPs of a bank's loan division (mortgage, commercial and installment). While the lending officers are on the front line with the client, there is a lot of support staff who is putting together the paperwork, etc. to ensure a successful transaction.
I would have appreciated being included in the kudos extended to the loan officers (especially the involved commercial loans), and I am sure your lender will appreciate that you thought not only of her but her staff also.

How about a "sharing" gift to the office along with a thank you card specially addressed just to the loan officer? That way you can let her know she's "special" without violating any rules or stepping on any toes.
