At the 1988 Republican convention in Houston that nominated George Bush (senior) for president, David Fink of 'The Hartford Courant' asked the son (George W.) what he and his father talked about when they weren't talking politics. The one-word answer: an obscene description of women. A shocked Fink later wrote that that remark was the younger Bush's "good ol' boy version of charm".

(I've been told that the word is question is the same one often used for cats.)

This quote comes from the book "Completing the Revolution: A Vision for Victory in 2000', written by Robert D. Novak, published in 2000. From the dust jacket:

"'Completing the Revolution' is Robert Novak's manifesto for a Republican victory in November and for implementing a conservative vision for government in the years to come. He bring to his analysis the combativeness familiar to those who watch him on CNN's 'Crossfire', and the insight and perspective that have helped to make him one of America's leading political columnists. He is not afraid to criticize the various presidential candidates or the Republican leaders in Congress, especially those who fail to stand up for the party's principles - whom he calls 'Clintonized Republicans'."

I can't help it. The juxtaposition of Clinton and the word obscene...just kinda makes me smile...

Obviously, Bush spends his time talking about it while Clinton spends his time getting it.

How is a word an obscene description of women but not of cats?

Or:

Are cats obscene? (do yourself a favor and don't ask me)

The word '#*!@' is not obscene when applied to a female dog. It is ... well, not obscene, but insulting when applied to a female human.

Besides, the 'word similar to cat' that I was referring to corresponded to a 'part' of a woman.

....Well, that's interesting. I didn't know AW censored these boards. Moderator - the word 'that rhymes with witch' is NOT obscene the way I'm using it!!! I can't believe you censored it out!!!

By the way, I have three dogs - one stud and two bitches. Are you going to censor that too??? Oh - and I live near a dam in the country!!!

(I really *do* have three dogs - one male, two females. But I don't really live near a dam.)

Yes Yellowstone - You got the right word. But I can't swear to it - that part is hearsay. The actual quote from the book said 'an obscene description of women'.

Of course, the other words I can think of are worse...

barbarake, I don't think it was the moderators who censored you... there is some kind of built-in thingamajig (technical term, lol) that substitutes some form of @#% when you type in a swear word. (It's happened to me) Just exchange one letter or symbol for one of the letters in the word and you can get the gist across.

Either CNN or MSNBC showed Bush having lunch today with Cheney and their wives. George was his usual eloquent self (not), stuttering and stammering to reporters' questions.

After several embarrassing minutes of silence when it seemed George needed bailing out, Cheney remarked that his soup was getting cold. Bush pipes up with something like, "yeah, that's it, guys... and girls."

Yikes.

barbarake,

The moderators don't control the "censor." As kiheicat mentioned, that is controlled by the programming for the Message Center. It will automatically insert symbols in place of certain words that AW deems inappropriate for our site.

Just wanted you to know.
