I was flipping channels between MSNBC, CNN, Fox News primarily. I was stunned by some of the comments I heard last night.

While watching MSNBC, Chris Matthews and his pundits were talking about the elite on the coasts versus the flyover part of the country. They were quite amused with themselves regarding this whole vast wasteland in the middle that had voted for Bush. This whole middle of the country is only a place you flyover, certainly never actually GO there.

While watching CNN, (I can't remember who now), the pundits were talking about who was voting how. Of course all of the people in the center of the country were completely disregarded as just being people with guns in the back window of their pickups.

I'm still amazed. I had no idea we were only the poor, ugly cousins of the coasts.

The condescension cuts across both ways. I haven't found much of the "heartland" to be so enthralled with my hometown, NY.

I don't dispute that. However this was being bantered about on the news!

Well, you're not going to find smarmier people than TV news journalists, that's true. They happen to be based on the coasts and think that intelligent life can't exist anywhere else.

Gee, isn't that the definition of "redneck"?

Oops, I forgot. That's not a pejorative term.

That was Brokaw.

I watched NBC coverage until he went off at 5am...he was so punchy, it was kind of amusing to watch. When they realized that they may have called Bush winning Florida too early, Brokaw just looked at Tim Russert and said something to the affect of "wouldn't that be something if we made the same mistake twice..."

At one point he was talking, on-air, while munching on crackers. It was somethin' to watch.

If you didn't watch the results on CBS, you missed a STELLAR performance by Rather...
He (or his writers) decided to go "down-home" with the comments...

"tight as a tick"

"hotter than a Parking lot in Laredo"

there were a TON of em...we kept watching just to hear what Dan would say next!!...a complete LMFAOROTFL!!!!
