This is a concept my son learned in his morality class.

Example:
You drop a banana peal on the sidewalk and someone slips on it-the person should have watched where they were going.

You slip on banana peal-it shouldn't have been left there.

It has to do with the very human nature to try to find a reason why whatever happens can't be your own fault.

The course is designed to teach personal accountability. Seemed like an appropriate time to mention.

Good; I'll tell my husband that I have this FAE thing next time he complains that I find a way to blame everything on him!

That is a disolvable gene that all children are born with....it disolves at different rates for each person--some reach old age without it ever disolving

Zazzie....Would you happen to know if there is anything available on the market, legal OR otherwise that speeds up this disolving process?...I could use a case or two!

Rancher, for an example, my son needs to look no further than his own father (but thanks for the offer). My husband once almost ran over a man in a wheelchair but it wasn't his fault. The wheelchair was too low to the ground so my husband couldn't see it out of the windshield of his van (maybe if he had LOOKED....).

In fact, it was during one of my rants that my son brought this concept to my attention. He is way more accepting of his father's faults than I tended to be, and it was a real eye-opener. It has sort of become the family joke, when we catch one another in this mode, we call out "huh oh, fundamental attribution error". Ok, so our family is not that funny.
