Just curious, so here it is:

The powers that be said YOU choose which candidate is prez, right now, today. Or, have Clinton stay in office for another 3 months until it can be done over again, with same candidates as well as new ones. If you choose the latter, who would you want to see run against Gore and Bush?

Yeah. Im bored.

Hi Maui...

The powers that be said YOU choose which candidate is prez, right now, today.

This would be an interesting option. The candidate of my choice (Al Gore) would be President and it would let the country, and the rest of the world, get on with things that need and should be done. However, I would not exercise this option. I don't think one person (even if it is me) should have the power to decide who The President of the United States should be.

Or, have Clinton stay in office for another 3 months until it can be done over again, with same candidates as well as new ones. If you choose the latter, who would you want to see run against Gore and Bush?

This sounds like a better idea to me. We could use the 3 months to work out the problems with the ballots. Also (I hope) we would have a clear winner that would be chosen by the voters and not the legal system. No new candidates, hope for better choices in four years...

Barry (a third option, Could I appoint myself President? Yeah, the would be cool) Barris

Well... personally I would vote for anybody, even KRS, for president before I would allow Clinton to linger a minute longer than absolutely necessary.

Hi Barry (you cute thing you) Barris

I think Im the only one who didnt think Clinton was that bad a prez, I guess. This is his sexual appetite aside (takes two to tango, ya know...she wasnt miss innocent), and any other personal stuff he may or may not have done. Im talking PREZ...and to me, I think he did pretty dam good. But who am I? Just a face in the crowd I guess.

Hi Maui!!

I would like to see Gore win, however, going with the ponderment on the second option, I'd like to see McCain run against both of them and I'd vote for McCain in a minute.

Hmmm, I wonder does McCain ride a Harley?

good to see you around Maui

maui....sorry, but some things just can't be overlooked...like perjury. While it may seem innocent, it was serious enough for him to have done jailtime had he not been President. And as much as he likes to make people think he is pro-women, his treatment of his own wife says differently.

I like Powell and wish he would consider running. However, he obviously does not want to expose his family to the media circus. Can't say I blame him for that.

Bethca McCain DOES ride a harley. If he doesnt, I can fetch him on mine, lol. Well, my IMAGINATIVE harley, seeing as how I havent been on one in ages. Not counting the one I used to ride in here long ago when it was dusty and unused. I would go for that, enchanted! McCain...hes cool. Remember, this is just WHAT IF...so if you want him in the race, hes in. Your choice is then #2...start all over again in 3 months.

Its nice to see you in a thread, too, enchanted. Thought I would dust off the ponderments for one night and post one.

Forgot to say hi to BarryBarris!

njrazd, yes Powell would be wonderful but I have to respect how much he cares for his family, and I can't blame him for wanting to shelter them from public life. It's crazy out there!

Hiya njrazd! I hear what youre saying, but all that aside, as PRESIDENT, he did pretty good. I dont care that he lied. I dont care that he decided to puff ceegars with girls...what I care about is what he did and he did it well, in my opinion. I might be lots of things, and I might say lots of things. But that doesnt have any aspect on how I manage this property I am in control of. I make the owner money, the tenants are happy, the place is livable, and I do my job VERY well. I might pick my nose, get kinky with hubby and smoke ceegars, lie to the court that I wasnt going 65 like the officer said...it was only 45. Has nothing to do with my job, which runs smoothly for the owner. See what I mean? Clinton did the best he could, and in my book, all other stuff aside, he did it well.

I like Powell too. I like Hillary also. We need a female in the whitehouse.

Whatever is thought, could be wrong, depending on whomever is playing, yes? Whatever one thinks might not necessarily be the truth either, but sometimes that isnt taken into consideration, is it? And sometimes, truth doesnt matter since it wont sway opinion most of the time.

I know that doesnt make sense. Since when do I make sense anyway?

Gee, thanks whiney.

I'm with enchanted... McCain anyday!!!
Btw, Maui, I don't know if he rides a Harley but he was having a good childlike time going down the waterslides at the Grand Wailea when we were there.
I had the good fortune to meet him when we took a little 3 day getaway down the road and WHAT a wonderful man! I liked him before I got to talk to him but even more so afterward. Even my kids liked him!

I did ask him if he was going to run again and he gave a good evasive "Weeeeell, we'll see" with a chuckle.

edited to add hiya Barry! Where ya been hidin?

I don't think your analogy is apt, maur. When your tenants "hired" you to be their landlord, you entered into a business transaction based on an exchange of goods (cash for housing). You didn't swear to uphold the law (rather than flout it for your own personal purposes), which is what Clinton did - and he didn't do it out of some vague idea of protecting national security, but to avoid a negative outcome to civil litigation in which he was involved. Now if you were the state housing inspector, and it was discovered that your own rental property was substandard (and your reply to your tenants was "So what?", THEN we'd have an analogy.

As to your question: I think that any of your suggestions sets a nasty precedent. The only reasonable action is to play out things as they are, not to set aside both the Constitution, Florida's own laws and legal precedent. Unlike with a parent, who can let kid A do X and, when kid B says "Hey, you let HIM do X - why can't I?", you can reply "Because I said so," that is NOT the way government is supposed to work. In government, whoever "says so" has to come up with at least a marginally plausible reason why, and be prepared to defend it. There's no reason to tinker with the system when the system, as it stands, provides avenues for relief, not all of which have been exhausted. Jeez, is it that painful to actually go through the process?

HCQ...it was just a fun thread. Thats all. And my tenants didnt hire me. The owner did. Never mind. Just wanted to do something light. My opinion was that I liked what Clinton did as prez. Just my own opinion.

kcat...I remember when you told me about that visit and the pics you sent.

Enchanted, I am with you McCain would be a good choice.

Maui, I have always liked Bill and Hillary. I believe Bill Clinton really does like women and wants them to succeed. Unlike Bush who really doesn't like them and wants to set them back at least twenty years. I believe that the Republicans were desperate to find anything to hurt his presidency. Shoot they were trying from day one to come up with some thing. Nothing was panning out after spending 50 million or so taxpayer dollars so they had to come up with something. I think ol' Boris Yeltsin might be right. He said he thinks Monica was a plant,a set-up. Does seem that way since everyone knew his weakness and still she was able to get close.

I do not care that he lied about sex. I cared and still do, that the republicans drug our country through all that mess. It should never have been made public. It was not the publics business. It never was with any past president. Many have had mistresses. Heck even our Royal Family ,the Kennedys,[ gad that makes me gag when they call them that!] had some infidelities while in the white house.
The Bushes want to be the republicans Royal Family. Like we need another one.

Now please, Can't we all just find something else to argue about? I am soooo tired of hearing about Bush and Gore. [oh, and Clinton too]Must be something else to rile us all up.

edited to fix just one glaring spelling error.I am sure I have missed others.

Well I could tell you that I hate Clinton and I really think that lying is part of ones character and that if he would be so disloyal to his own wife what the heck makes anyone think he would be loyal to the country. That his morals are worse than a guttersnake and on top of it he's as dumb as a post for lying about it in the first place like duh he wouldn't get caught.

Or I could tell you how woman should stay home barefoot and pregant playing pirate games ROFL

But I won't cause that will get dander up for sure and I have more than enough dander to last well through winter thanks
