He always looked a little pale to me. I thought he looked down right ghostly next to Bush. That guy has got a great tan.
I hope he is all right.Kind of rough to have to bypass the bypass.

Yes, the news just said he did not have a heart attack.
I hadn't seen him since he was Secretary of State. My first impression when he was chosen as Bush's running mate was that he looked ashen, bloated and in the need of some exercise in the fresh air

It doesn't have to be either heart attack or stress. For example, there's also a "fun" condition called costochondritis or Tietze's Syndrome, which I experience. Briefly, it's a painful inflammation of the rib cartilage which feels just like a heart attack (chest and radial arm pain). They don't know what causes it, but it can be triggered by anything from open-heart surgery, chest injury, and respiratory infection to strenuous physical activity, and is aggravated by activity as well. It's not stress-related, as far as anybody can tell. It's usually treated with NSAIDs. My first bout with this, I could hardly breathe. I knew it wasn't a heart attack; I wondered whether I'd broken a few ribs.

Ah yes, krs, a sneer a day, eh? I suppose better you should let it out here than, say, resort to kicking the dog.
My own point - and what I actually stated (but hey, why address what somebody writes?) was that chest pains do not necessarily indicate a heart attack or "stress", and can result from any number of problems. I'd say that's hardly an attempt at diagnosis - rather quite the opposite, as a matter of fact.
As it turns out, it's a coronary artery narrowing (which docs noted was not a result of "stress" ), and they've put in a stent.

A little more serious than they spin it. You don't get rushed off to a heart cath and get stents for angina, but a blockage in the coronary arteries. Best of luck to Mr. Cheney.

I do hope that he is on the mend soon. My grandpa had one of the Stents intalled and it REALLY helped him. I'm sure each person's experience is different.

The story sure changed from this morning. The early reports were clearly minimized. Then we find out his artery was 90% blocked and he had surgery.

Well, according to the latest round of reports, the initial test didn't show a heart attack, but the ones whose results they got at around noon Eastern time did.

Often, the cardiac enzymes will show changes in the 1st 24 hours after an MI. The initial set might be normal, then the changes show in the follow up set.
Edited to add he must have had a bad echo or something was going bad to be rushed off to heart cath so fast.
