I always preferred a president with dimples. And I'm sure Gore will have a big smile to show them off. Gore won the election the minute they started disputing the 'butterfly ballot'. The ACLU is still pursuing an appeal on them not allowing a revote.

Remembering that your "they" did not begin the protest of that ballot, of course.

I think that this entire episode has become undignified and that they should both concede.

Could've sworn I saw Bush's rep Baker on TV last night explaining the difference in Texas law vs Florida regarding handcounts: in Texas dimples are counted as votes if the intent of the voter can be clearly discerned.

Apparently discerning the intent of the voter re: dimpled chads in Texas is fair whereas in Florida it's "cheating."

I can see how Palm Beach would rather use a different standard now. I don't think their past standards were etched in stone, and now would be a great time for a change.

"Palm Beach has worked since 1990 under a rule saying at least one corner of a chad -- the bit of paper that gets pushed through on a punchcard ballot -- must be dislodged for a ballot to count."(Associated Press)

krs,

I couldn't agree more. This whole thing HAS become undignified though I don't know what would happen if both of them conceded.

That's a good ponderment, where's Maui?

I really don't think IL. was a good place to find a precedent. I'm still waiting for Cook County to become our next state.
