We generally have a high time with hubby's family on Thanksgiving weekend. I make our own dinner for my family, then we go late in the afternoon to my sister-in-law's house to visit. My brother-in-law drives in from Chicago (to Ohio) with his wife each Thanksgiving. Their son and his fiance usually come too but they are spending time with her family this year.
There are 5 siblings, and their families, with some missing this year due to living out of town now etc. We'll play games, Taboo, Pictionary, and just talk and catch up. Everyone has their appointed snack food to supply, my contribution is pie, pumpkin and apple this year.
For the most part everyone gets along well. There is always a lot of laughter and silliness, even as we approach, gain, and overtake middle age.

Got my turkey in the oven, watched my High School alma mater, Buchholz High School, in the Macy's parade, and all is good.

Going to my grandparents' house for turkey with all the fixin's.
For those of you with teenagers and young adults making your life hell, just a hopeful reflection from me.....our family was grand champion of fussing and fighting for so many years and holidays were just a misery. Seemed like all of us couldn't get along for two minutes hashing over old hurts and offenses. But time and the passing of some of our loved ones won out and brought us back with a more giving and caring atittude, and now with everyone pretty much grown up (mentally as well as chronologically!) we have wonderful holidays and wonder what it was that drove us all away from each other in our youth and know-it-all-ness. So, I am really grateful this year that all the faces around the table will be happy ones, and that old memories have been chased away by new ones

Life is indeed good. It's chilly but the furnace works, the washer made its screeching way through another day to wash more clothes than two people reasonably need in three lifetimes, nobody's sick today - not even me! Yahoo! and for once I've got a stockpile of my own meds. Sewing machine's on the fritz but I found somebody who'll come HERE to fix it, but they can't come till Monday so I have an excuse to kick back this weekend. I'm sagging a bit in a few places but I still fit into last year's jeans. I lost my ring yesterday but I still have the girl who gave it to me, and my boy called me collect - to tell me he loves me, so that's fine Not only do we have pie for dessert; I did a dandy job on the crust. And although I'm nearly a recluse in practial terms, I've got a dazzlingly diverse crowd of smartypants-types to grouse with - thanks to all of you at AW. My best wishes to everybody.

Hey all - The rest of the family is gone now. Had a wonderful and quiet time with my folks. Cooked a great turkey with a Cornbread/sun dried cherry stuffing. After a year of heartache/hospitals and the loss of family it was good to gather the remaining ones for a peaceful and traditional time.
Sometimes the best times are those ordinary moments. You never know they are special until you realize that they can never happen again.
I'll always miss grandma fussing with the blasted cranberry sauce.
I hope that all of you found a few special moments to remember on this day.
