"No taxation without Representation!"

We used to understand that you chose the political candidate and/or party that best represented your views in Congress; i.e. they were you in your stead speaking out for you on legislative matters. But this newer generation of people who have become adults in the 1970's and on have no clue at all about what role government and politicians are supposed to have in their lives.

Anymore, it has become a sporting event: you pick one side to root for and then you wave your flags, vote, drink your beer, and cheer them on! Take for instance the newer Republicans: When the current President was discovered to have smoked marijuana in the distant past, the Republicans screamed and yelled about "Character" and "Decency" and so forth for 8 years. But, when their candidate has a past of doing Cocaine and more drugs, alcohol abuse, and breaking the law, then it's:

"That's OK, That's Alright - Get out there and Fight, Fight, Fight!"

As if George Bush Jr. is a Quarterback in a football game! And when Clinton is accused of telling a lie and "blemishing the history of the office with a crime", HELL - George Bush Jr. is going to be the first President to come into the office WITH a criminal record!

"That's OK, That's Alright - Get out there and Fight, Fight, Fight!"

When Governor Bush approved a Texas bill that stated that hand-counts were always better than machine counts, a lot of people were surprised when he had his legal team file in Florida that hand-counting was entirely inaccurate! Worst, was when filing multiple lawsuits, the Bush legal team argued before two different courts that "hand-counts were entirely inaccurate" AND AT THE SAME TIME that hand-counts were better to count military ballots -- the total hypocrisy didn't phase them a bit!

"That's OK, That's Alright - Get out there and Fight, Fight, Fight!"

Democracy is a fragile thing and it need eternal vigilance to keep it clean. But when the Bush camp tells Republican voters that EXPEDIANCY is better than DEMOCRACY, what do all of the Republicans say?

"That's OK, That's Alright - Get out there and Fight, Fight, Fight!"

Sports!

Let those who are without sin cast the first stone.

Seems like everyone wants to cast stones at Bush for his 'recovery' and sucess in this area. At least he didn't hide it.

Clinton denied smoking weed...he said he didn't inhale.
He looked us right in the camera lense and said 'I did NOT have sex with that woman'(or whatever it was...not exact quote).
Gore looked us right in the eye and said 'You mean THIS is a fundraiser? I had no idea!'

And so...let those who are without sin cast the first stone.

Carole, the point is not that Clinton or Gore is clean, but that Republicans make a big stink when a Democrat does one thing and then when their own candidate does it ten-fold, then,

"That's OK, That's Alright - Get out there and Fight, Fight, Fight!"

If it is bad for Clinton to have smoked Marijuana, then Cocaine for Bush is 100 times worse -- but that's OK for Republicans, because Bush is their team's Quarter-back and you always cheer-on the Quarterback!

"That's OK, That's Alright - Get out there and Fight, Fight, Fight!"

When illegal fund-raising from the 1996 campaign came up, it was discovered that Dole and the GOP were just as bad, then the Republiklan lead congress told the Press: "Tomorrow we're going to confront those accountants and we're going to inform them that they made a mistake". You know what, the next day the accountants filed out of the closed-door session and recanted their findings. This was eerily Orwellian where the chickens were made to "confess" at their trials in Animal Farm.

And what did Republican voters say about that?

"That's OK, That's Alright - Get out there and Fight, Fight, Fight!"

edited for spelling

I would like to differ with you.

The only ones I see 'toutin' the virtues of Republicans are democrats who want to smear them.

I'm a loyal republican (except when I made a mistake and voted for Clinton when I didn't mean to! Only happened once though
and I have never said Bush is a Saint..sinless..etc.

In fact, I don't remember seeing ANY one claiming to be pro Bush as ever having stated anything about his virtues.

Sure, I think his admitting being a recovering alcholic...etc is great. I mean, there are a lot of people of his generation who did a lot worse. (And I'm sure Clinton would be right up there).

At least Bush admitted it..where Clintonites say 'It depends on your definition of is..is..'

I believe people can leave their past behind them...I didn't give a fig that Clinton smoked pot...what I was OFFENDED at was his feeble attempt at an explanation.

Ummmm....yeah.

Carole, GW did try to hide his DWI record. He explained that he didn't want his daughters to know.

KRS - It was OK for them to know that he did cocaine but not for them to know he was a drunk who drove.

You know, during all of the digging around I haven't found information about GW's cocaine use and his treatment at a clinic for that. I think there was maybe one yellow journalistic passing reference to it but there was neither specifics or diatribe in the reference.

I don't know what to make of that.

All this personal and character assasination of someone who happened to be born priveledged is really sick.

Why is only the negative talked about? Why are people digging for dirt?

The winning one-liner goes to Washington wit Mark Russell : "Bush says he isn't going to play the rumor game -- specifically, the rumor that he was born with a silver spoon
in his nose."

These aren't stones ,Carole ,these are words.

KRS, I know that is true. I have never really heard more than rumor about cocaine use. I imagine if it is true we will hear about it adnauseum when Bush is in office.

Nope...these words are STONES my dear. Surely we aren't by definition being 'literal' are we?

These are WORDS. They are directed twords a public figure who happens to be named George Bush. Not at anyone else. He is not hurt by them. He isn't reading them. If he was he would not care. So again to you I say these are words, not stones.

I would NEVER try to alter your thinking process so this is all ,as always,JMHO.

Is it OK to do it to someone who was not born privileged - Clinton?

" Why is only the negative talked about? Why are people digging for dirt?"

Why was it ok to dig dirt for 8 years during the Clinton Presidency? Why is it OK to dig up dirt about Gore?

Ponder this:

If Bushwhacked will LIE to his OWN daughter, what will he do to YOURS.

Please point out one high-focus political campaign where "digging up dirt" was NOT de rigueur.

HCQ ! YES! That is my point! Everyone does it! Everyone has done it! It has always been OK to the Republicans before so why not now? Why are we all suposed to sit back and not say anything about what we percieve is happening this time around?

I enjoy this political talk because it makes me think and it makes me research a bit more than I would to see if I can find the truth, elusive as that is. I refuse to just be a sheep and only base my knowledge on the very biased media in my local area or the very biased media anywhere. A person has to have an open mind and read the good, the bad ,the rumor - the dirt, if you will in order to make any kind of intelligent decision about any of these public figures. It is hard to seperate the wheat from the chaff but it really is fun to try. This election has had more twists and turns than any in my lifetime and by Go* I intend to enjoy it!

Almost nobody voted for me,
But I still won!
America is amazing, isn't it? Hardly anyone
actually voted for me, but here I am! In fact MORE
PEOPLE voted got GORE! But here I am. I'm
confident the recount In Florida will go my
way--VERY confident if you know what I mean.

Anyway, I want to thank the incredibly slim minority
of Americans who actually voted for me, as well as
the 3,000 Jewish voters in Palm Beach who voted
for anti-Semite Pat Buchanan instead of
Gore-Lieberman, as well as the 19,000 who voted
for BOTH Buchanan and Gore-Lieberman.
Most of all, I want to thank all those Florida precinct
captains who did just what my little brother told
them to and didn't ask any questions--couldn't
have done it without you guys!
