With all of this bicker and backer about recounts, dimples, chads, and legal actions. Something is getting lost about the election. That is what issues really matter to the Average Joe American. Afterall its the Average Joe that pays the taxes, fights the wars, and keeps the American Dream a realistic acheiveable opportunity that people still risk their lives to get a piece of. So what do you Average Joe's think on the issues.

I am a single mother, two children, no child support. Obviously I'm for Gore because I want all those free handouts, right?

Wrong!!

I went back to school six years ago and now have a good job. We're going to Europe for two weeks in April and my ex doesn't pay child support because I told him he didn't have to. (I said he should save it toward college.)

So obviously I'm for Bush because I like the idea of tax cuts, etc.

Wrong again!!

I'm still for Gore - and here are the reasons:

Supreme Court - The thought of Bush appointing judges to the Supreme Court scares me to death.

The environment - It's obvious to me that Bush is more interested in business than the environment. Don't get me wrong - the environmentalists can go too far - but we *have* to take better care of our environment for our children's sake. This global warming threat is very serious and we (America) just seems to pay lip service (if that) to the possibility.

The death penalty - I'm *for* the death penalty under certain circumstances. But I think there has to be a lot of safeguards and I don't think Bush considers them enough.

And - on a personal note - Bush is just not very smart. Gore might not be as good a speaker, more 'stiff', etc. but I don't think anyone has ever claimed that he basically wasn't intelligent. I can just see Bush dealing with foreign dignitaries - many of them speak better English than he does.

I lived in Texas the last 21 years and I and I agree. GW does not give a hoot about the enviroment. I'm not even sure he knows what it is. [ edited by december3 on Dec 9, 2000 10:54 AM ]

networker67,
Many in this country pay taxes and some fight wars, but I can't fathom what you mean when you suggest "that people still risk their lives to get a piece of" the American Dream. What "American Dream" are you talking about, and how is its acquisition a threat to life? I'd really like to understand what the import-buying, gas-guzzling, debt-ridden "Average Joe" is doing to safeguard this "dream" as "a realistic acheiveable opportunity," and why he shouldn't be stopped.

The only thing I can see that we've "lost" in this election is the future President and Vice President. Given what was on offer, I don't understand why more people don't recognize this as divine intervention. Be glad you're not in NY--we're definitely stuck with the termagant...

Neither Joe nor Average,
Pareau

Pareau - "...but I can't fathom what you mean when you suggest "that people still risk their lives to get a piece of" the American Dream."

They get on the freeways in the big cities and drive to work. That's how they risk their lives everyday.

Issues for me are:

1.) Social Security
2.) Affordable healthcare
3.) Doctors making medical decisions, not the corporations.
4.) Less government spending.
5.) Many others

pareau - Are you not aware of boat people from Haiti and Cuba. I guess the asians packing themselves in cargo holds with little food or water to make the journey aren't published in your newspapers.

So I don't stand corrected on the issue that people risk their lives for a peice of the American Dream.

Man, this is the kind of thing that gives slack a bad name. Those are "HAITIANS" and "CUBANS," not AMERICANS, and even if they're ever naturalised, they'll never be "Average American Joes."

I hope to see an improvement in logic and word choice in your future work, networker67.

pareau - Those people aren't risking their lives for a peice of the American Dream? Or are you under the impression they are trying to get here because of the great pizza.

I hope your future replies interpret the logic that is so clearly understood by others.

I thought that is what America was? Haitians, Cubans, Japanese, Black, White, yellow, red, German, Italian, Irish, yadda yadda.

Honesty (I see Al as a pathological Liar...I invented the internet...constantly reinventing Al Gore according to whomever he is trying to impress or win over)

Check out the site 'www.urbanlegends.com'. They explain that Gore never actually said he invented the internet and a lot of the other misconceptions you hear bandied about (including the infamous 'Love Story was based on Tipper and him').

Morality...(I see Bush as a good example of our generation. Sure we did stuff...admit to it and learn from it and go forward.)

I guess that why Bush answered 'no' to that reporter several years ago when asked if he had ever been arrested. And I guess he 'learned from it' - he stopped drinking 12 years later.

I don't know much about this either.

Supreme Court appointments to secure our future.

I agree with you on this one except I suspect we're on opposite sides. But that's ok - you have the right to your opinion (as do I).

"Chief Joseph," the head of the Nez Perce nation, was anything but "average." He was also no "Joe." His real name was something on the order of "Hinmahtooyahlatkekht"; "Joseph" was the convenient nic the settlers gave him.

We need some QC on new topics in this joint.
