What is your favorite movie of last year? My choice is "The Gladiator". What a great movie! The special effects were impressive but the acting was magnificent! I was blown away not only by Russell Crowe but by Jauquin (sp?) Phoenix. Wow, what a talent!
Anyway, of all the movies of 2000, that is my top choice!

I'm always making plans to watch a movie but seldom get around to it. Of the few I saw this year I think Mission Impossible 2 was the best... lots of action and Tom Cruise.
My favorite all time is probably Fried Green Tomatoes... Tawaaaanda!
Not paranoid anywhere else but here!

How about best and worst?
I didn't see too many movies last year, but here are my picks:
Best: Gladiator
Worst: Dr. T and the Women
Also, didn't Erin Brockovich come out last year? That one was also very good.

Liked: Meeting the parents (or something like that)
Hated: Lucky numbers with John Travolta and Lisa Kudrow. (BIG disappointment.)

Hmm.. all the movies I think I've seen this year were "new release" rentals. Out of those, I think my best & worst were:
Best: Man on The Moon (Jim Carrey was amazing as Andy Kaufman)
Worst: The Waterboy (stoooooopid!)

I liked The Virgin Suicides and Magnolia the best.
Gladiator was pretty cool, too. I loved the ending...the music coupled with the scenery made it eerie, but beautiful.

I am embarassed to say that I went to see
'Dude, Where's My Car?'---and this dumb teenager movie turned into a campy science fiction movie that had me laughing at the stupidest things. Maybe not my favourite movie---but it got me giggling. This will be on the list of Cult Classics in a few years.

Zazzie, I saw it too.
I don't think I liked it as much as you did, though. It wasn't as funny as I'd hoped and my husband fell asleep!

Gladiator - great stuff and effects - but predictable as watching a digital watch run.
U-571 - lots of slam - bang - noise and stuff - just as long as you know NOTHING about the REAL HISTORY of getting the enigma machine or of the battle for the North Atlantic. Thrill ride - but not deep enough to get your socks wet
Erin Brockovitch - was really OK and if you have ever been to the SlashX Bar in Hinkley you would recognize the location. (That is about all that exists of Hinkley today - the community is GONE) Ranked number two for me.
Where The Heart Is - with N. Portman was the one that I enjoyed the most. Kinda a chick flick at times - but people that you could believe exist are there on screen - and they were a quirky lot. (Doubt that many would agree with me though on this choice)

I only went to the movies a few times during 2000 and then only to take my 7 yr old son. I saw The Iron Giant, Titan AE, Toy Story 2 and Pokemon 2. I enjoyed all but the last.
The following movies are my favorites (among those I remember) that I saw on video this year. I'm sure some are 1999 films.
In order of preference:
Ride with the Devil
The Matrix
Gladiator
American Beauty
The Limey
The Talented Mr. Ripley
Frequency
Being John Malkovich

I don't know if you all are aware of this, but you can get paid for giving your comments about your favorite movies (or anything else from foods, cars, insurance, websites, etc).

I do reviews on movies and other items every month and so far in the past few months they've mailed me over $100.
Just thought you might be interested. I love getting those "free money" checks in the mail every month!

My fave movie of this year had to be Almost Famous, I just loved it. The worst one was Blair Witch Project 2, it was so, so, so bad.

I didn't go to the movies last year, but my kids rented The Perfect Storm over the holidays. I only fell asleep once! That was the first rental I had seen all year too, I think. I thought it was pretty good. But, I enjoyed watching the hunk in it, as much as the movie.

The last two movies I saw were Toy Story 2, which was actually pretty funny, and The Sixth Sense which had me clueless until the very end.

I don't know what the best was for me (probably the Gladiator) but I know which one was the WORST:
Scary Movie: The worst more tasteless piece of crap I've seen to disgrace a movie screen in a looong time. Ugh!

Preacher4u---did you see Scary Movie thinking it was going to be a parody on all the slasher movies?? Were you surprised when it turned into a teenage sex parody movie instead??
The marketing of that movie really ticked me off---because it was aimed at teenagers and even pre-teens because of the horror movie aspect---but it really had nothing to do with horror except as a back drop for all the other stuff.

Well, I have to say I agree about the marketing of Scary Movie. Let me say up front that I *never* let my daughter watch movies with violence or sex. She is 8 and I prefer she stick with her favorite Disney movies (or her current obsession, the musical CATS).
Last summer our family of three went on a camping trip. Was a blast! While driving around we spotted a drive-in theater that still showed movies. Hubby and I were thrilled! We seen "Scary Movie" was one of the movies showing. We had been wanting to see it and since we were sleeping in a tent at a campground, no sitter was available. We took our daughter. Let's just say five minutes into the movie I had her lie down and face the back of the seat and go to sleep! The movie was absolutely raunchy and I am far from a prude! I had no idea that it was going to be as such thinking like mentioned here, that it was some comedy take-off of horror movies. I won't be making that mistake again!

Both my children were nagging me to see this movie. They had seen the ads (placed in shows that young teenagers watch)--and I have never let them see the real teen slasher movies they thought maybe I would let them see a comedy version.
BUT---SuperMUM has a weapon---I always take a peek at a Movie Review site that is aimed at parents ---and it took me about a paragraph to give them my answer
The site is below--It is called Screen It and it takes a movie apart from a parental viewpoint.
