i am surely revealing my age. as much as i love rock 'n' roll, i go nuts for doo-wop music from the 50's and 60's. my favorite groups are the Earls, Jive Five, Crests and the Drifters among others. how many other oldies(doo-wop) fans are out there?

The Harptones
My hubby grew up in Philly in the 50s and 60s and can go on for hours. There's a site here that has a lot of the old doowop he remembers.

snowyegret thanks for the link. I am a teenager of the 70's but I love 50 & 60 music. My favourites would have to be the Drifters, Jerry Lee Lewis, and The Delltones to name a few. Goose bump material.

Some of the songs are gone from that site. They had Sunday kind of love, diamonds & pearls, and pages of doowop.

My husband says it's the Paragons, and I'm hearing diamonds and pearls right now!
Do you know who did White Port and Lemon Juice (WPLJ)?

maui- as a laverne and shirley fan you should know the "hossenfeffer incorporated" song they did at the beginning of the show. snowy- although there was a group called the paragons, this song was by the paraDons. by the end of the day i will remember who did WPLJ. very few people know that song. i think it might be the four deuces.

The four deuces did WPLJ.
Supremes were called The Primettes
The Temps came from 2 groups
The Distants
The Primes
The lead singer was Elbridge Bryant when they first formed.
Who was David Ruffin singing with at the time?
Credit for that one goes to my husband.

Stusi;
Husband Says:
David Ruffin sang with the Dixie Hummingbirds. They sang with Paul Simon on "She Loves Me Like A Rock"
Aurelia was by the Pelicans.
Where are You Now That I Need You Was by the Mello Moods.
Now, what was on the "B" side of WPLJ?

snowy- i had recorded WPLJ many years ago off the radio on reel-to-reel. out of the two thousand or so 45's i had that was not one of them, so i never saw the flip side. i am very impressed, however, with your hubby knowing the two i asked about-very obscure records. i am going to see an oldies show in March with the Cadillacs, Coasters, Drifters, Moonglows, Penguins, Brooklyn Bridge, the Legends of Doo-Wop featuring Jimmy Gallagher from the Passions and Tony Passa(laqua) from the Fascinators. does your hubby know what song was the Fascinators biggest hit? also, who sang "Looking for an Echo"?( he is also on the bill).

Husband Says
Fascinators best song is "Oh Rose Marie" and "Looking for an Echo" was sung by Kenny Vance and The Planotones. He thinks they were a Brooklyn group but isn't quite sure, also they sang a pretty good version of Gloria.
