We got up early and went straight over to our new house to paint.

They helped all day long, they were just wonderful! I couldn't tell them enough what a great job they were doing!

Hi Kel - I'm dying to know whether you ever decided on the plum carpeting? What color are the walls? I'm glad you enjoyed the day with your daughters... they're so lucky to have you as a role model.

I used antique white for the bedrooms and the little room between them, a sleepy relaxing kind of color. Once I saw it up I loved it for bedrooms but realized it has a yellow tinge that wont work with plum. The kitchen and living room will be country white. Then later one wall in each room will be painted to bring mood. So still not sure of carpet. My Mom and Dad were there all day working and Mom sees the dilema and shes going to go to the carpet shop with me, she knows how hard this is (but promises not to force opinoions). My Dad kicks ass! He has the rotted spots in the floor almost all fixed already. He had to jack up the foundation in a couple of places.

Sheesh, I'm crying again! lol

Heres my troopers entering with cans of paint.

I'm sooooo thrilled for you. I'll share my hankie and your tears of joy. This is so inspiring.

Do you have a theme for your kitchen - like cherries or apples or whatnot? Just curious - I'm trying to picture it.

We should be moved in in two weeks or less.

It's like things fall apart all around you and you don't see a way out and stuff keeps happening then this all this! I'm totally too happy. Feels like I've just stolen someone elses life.

I know I'm going on and on and on about this house and all this stuff like the new job and all, but I remember always sharing so much pain and not much good and I just want to talk about it all.
This wonderful GOOD stuff

Mybiddness, I have no theme yet, my kitchen is a tiny affair with sliding glass doors to bring lots of light. I'm just going to paint cabinets and all country white and then scour the country side via the net auctions for totally funky cool, hopefully glass or acrylic 50s cabinet pulls.

I'm happy if I seem an inspiration, but truly I'm not. I just keep getting up is all.

Kel - I'm thinkin no theme is even better - then you can just throw together whatever strikes your fancy. I love to collect funky old stuff from eBay and just have fun with it. I've got an old Curious George monkey hanging in the kitchen, lots of old toys, an assortment of unusual figurines and a big splash of this and that... I like a happy kinda kitchen.

Your post made my day! It's so nice to see someone really enjoying life to the fullest. And, I think it's even more special that you have your daughters and your parents to enjoy it with you.

Thanks for sharing... your energy rocks!

That is a real nice porch facing the South and you can sit out there in the summer and if the late day sun is too hot a roll down screen on the west side of the porch there will shade you in the summer when the sun is overhead more instead of shining from the south

Yup I would put a couple chairs out there and Maybe even a railing. Prop my feet up - wave at the people going by.

B I G smile here...

And since we're all votin' on what's to
become of your front porch, I'll add porch swing!

Very happy for you, Kel -- it's not someone else's life you've stolen, it's you reclaiming the one that was taken from you for a time, imo.

Beyond the Porch I bet that if Kel were to invite us in she would know how to treat her guest in her new home!

Kel Where do the grandmotherly type lady and the busybody live? (Everybody has one in there neighborhood.)

lol sammysue "Kel Where do the grandmotherly type lady and the busybody live? (Everybody has one in there neighborhood.)"

I have no idea. I usually try to avoid neighbors. Once you get to know them they ask you for favors n stuff! We have a older couple next to us and they smile and wave, on the other side we have a young couple that avoid eye contact it seems (they learned the trick early)

Ah, the porch. I'm thinking of getting indoor outdoor carpet so that dirt won't track into the house so bad. Thought I might eventually get three rocking chairs?

Kel, I'm happy for you and I just wanted to let you know your energy is spreading. We've been in our first home for a little over 3 years now. We had a lot of big plans in the beginning and through a lot of yucky times they have fallen by the wayside. But things are starting to smooth out around here and reading your posts is getting me excited about my own house once again. Keep on posting and sharing your enthusiasm!

The sun is shining in under the overhang.
In the northern hemisphere the sun is low in the southern sky at this time of year. Later in the summer it will be more straight over head. The only way the shadows could be the way they are is facing south in the morning unless you rotated the imaige in the computer or were in the southern hemisphere.
Next time the sun comes over the horizen look and remember what it comes up near from your front porch - write it down maybe. Then about June see how much further to the left of that it comes up. The arc across the sky will be much longer when it is light from like 6 AM to 8:30 PM.
We hate the door on the North side because the sun never gets to melt the ice in the winter and it is always slick.

mouseslayer, I'm glad your gearing up for some remodeling. It sure feels good, but oh it's tiring! After I got off work I went over to get some more done and only stayed about an hour and a half. I guess I'll just do that all week and finish it up this weekend. The carpet should be in next week. (after I pick it that is)

That's great to get to paint before the carpet. Loads easier.
