What a great start to my day. Heard some funny sounds coming from the passenger side of my '85 Astro Van last night, so hubby drove it and said "sounds like a wheel bearing". Ok, ask oldest son to follow me to Tuffy's at 8 a.m. this morning, since hubby is under the gun at work and couldn't be late. Son doesn't have to be to work until 9, so it will work.
Flash to 8 a.m. this morning, where are my keys? In hubby's jacket pocket, at work, 25 minutes away.
Hubby dashes home, tells son to go to work, he drives the van and I drive his Malibu to Tuffy's, which takes twice as long as it should due to the expressway ramp that is closed near our house. (closed for 9 more months)
My auctions (I know I said I was taking a break, but I lied) chomp this week, it's freezing cold again, and today is my 42nd birthday. The hightlight of my week has been finding a good price on toilet paper when I went to the store on Tuesday. Isn't that sad? I actually found myself telling hubby about it. Pitiful I'm telling you, pitiful.

Thanks for the cake and ballons! The diagnosis on the van is in...
The front frame mounts are rusted through, so we have to find a body shop to look at it and tell us if there is enough metal left on the body itself to fix it and have it be safe. I want to trade it in on a Poniac Aztek, but we really can't afford it.
The amazing thing is, the body is in very good shape. There is no visable rust anywhere, and the frame itself it solid too. It's always something.

Boy Meya, all these wonderful wishes for your birthday are great. Hope they're making the second half of your birthday better than it began.
My gift to you is a promise *not* to sing for you. But a *BIG* Happy Birthday greeting is being sent your way. Many, many more.
posted on February 22, 2001 02:07:14 PMHAPPY BIRTHDAY, Meya! You're one of the nicest people on this board...always ready and willing to help the befuddled (me, for instance...heh). This means you have accumulated simply loads of good karma, so things absolutely will get better...

Thanks so much to everyone who posted in this thread. Today just really got to me, not so much the birthday but the van nonsense etc. After talking to the man who owns the body shop (before he saw the van), we were thinking the news was going to be all bad. He assumed the van was in much worse condition because of it's age, but after I got it out there, the problem is easily fixed. The frame and body are in good shape for an '85, no rot or rust at all. The rubber "boots" that support the body on the frame had rotted, but not the metal. So, he can fix that and a couple of other minor items we've put off. The damage should be around $400 or so. Whew!
Two friends of mine took me to lunch, and then we hit a thrift shop. One of my friends then played taxi for me, taking me to the bank and post office, and then she followed me way out where the body shop is and brought me home after. Good friends are hard to find, and she is a gem.
Things really perked up when hubby got home...he has been really swamped at work, taking on more responsability and working some Saturdays. He's on salary, so there isn't any overtime anymore, but he was told today that he got a raise of about $150 per month. We won't see all of that, because we had to raise our Federal withholding last month, but it will help. So, life looks better tonight, even though it was a stressful day. My house is quiet for the moment, and I'm getting ready to watch Thursday night tv.
