Has anyone seen this film, with Kate Winslet? It's really good. I did some searching on the net and found that it's a true story and quite amazing.

Yes, it took place in New Zealand. The girls were extremely good friends, to the point that their parents needed to keep them apart. This was Winslet's first film, 3 years before the Titanic.

I loved that movie and thought both of the girls were really wonderful in it. I thought it handled the whole idea of a sexual relationship between them in a very sensitive way---exploring the fine line between closeness, friendship and desire and how they can become intermingled through need in a way that's not often seen in movies.
I've recommended it to several people and wondered whatever happened to the other girl actress in it? IMO she was even better than Kate (although, of course, not quite so attractive, which in LaLaLand counts for so much more).

Yes, this is one of my favorite movies.
I found this movie so intriguing, I needed to know more, so I did a search on the Net.
Juliet Hume(Kate Winslet) became a writer of Murder Mysteries under the pseudonym Anne Perry. Strange, huh?
The other actress Melanie Lynskey has been in quite a few movies since. It was also her first movie and although she hasn't had the success that Winslet has, she is still acting. She was the kind stepsister to Drew Barrymore in Ever After.
