Not sure if I should post this question here or not, but I am a relatively new computer user, and my computer has been so slooooow and I am constantly gettin Cannot Display Pages, sometimes have to click on links 5 or 6 times to get the page I want, I cleared my cache (learned that from another thread) and I know I read somewhere about your computer saving "cookies", can anyone explain these to me, and 1) if I should clear them out and 2) where in the world do I find them? Sorry if this is a silly question!

Cookies can cause display problems - or rather lack of cookies can. Cookies are information and identifers placed on your PC by different sites. Ever wonder how Amazon knows who your are when you visit? The cookie tells them. What does it mean when you "sign in" at eBay ? It is a cookie palced on your PC that identifies you each time you send out for a page view.

I have a cookie blocker, when it is on and I go to Amazon, it odesn't know who I am. However, if cookies are blocked [ prevented from sending info out] I can not access password protected areas, because even with the correct password, the cookie is blocked and the site doesn't recognize my system.

Another example is here at AW- with my cookie blocker on the site doesn't recognize my system and my password doesn't work. However, the blocker shuts out all the banner ads too, so I just turnm it off to post.

Thanx, I just book marked that site to look at as soon as I am caught up, spent last night with constant cannot display page, and then my email said it couldn't find the host (10 minutes after I sent and received email). Could this be my internet providers service? My computer? Hardware problems? I am too new at this and am just at a loss.

I have had that problem and it is generally
caused by a loss of connection with the
internet service or your internet service
may be down for some reason. Most internet
providers have a good tech staff that will
help you out with this sort of problem.

And I should add, that you will probably
get a better answer if you call them rather
than try to get an answer through email.

Hi and thanx Helen! I wrote their number down and am going to give them a call this afternoon, BEFORE I lose all of my hair!

I've used mindspring for several years.
Now they have merged with earthlink and
they are really helpful with information
and help.

Good Luck!
