Which President had a child out of wedlock? I can't recall off hand.

Not that it is wrong but it's just that while Clinton was being raked over the coals for his situation, the finger pointers from Congress who -in my opinion- were living in glass houses. So if we (as a nation) are going to point a finger at Clinton then I think we need to examine all Presidential and government leaders' "Family Values."

I don't remember Bush Senior's alleged girlfriend, does anyone?

Well, adultery isn't okay just because people do it. It's one of the most deceitful things a person can do.

I think it was Grover Cleveland? It happened in between his terms (Benjamin Harrison replaced him and then he beat Harrison).

Thank you zazzie and james

I have heard from a Republican friend of mine that Barbara has denied the affair. The Republican and I don't agree but we have healthy discussions.

Barbara is not alleged to have had the affair, so I'm not sure how her denial means anything.

Since no on ementioned him, I guess JFK goes without saying?

Grover Cleveland (democrat)

" - During the 1884 presidential campaign, a woman named Maria Helpin went public with a story that Cleveland had fathered a child with her. The boy did exist, and he was named Oscar Folsom Cleveland.

- Cleveland did something unprecedented in political history. He sent a telegram to his campaign managers telling them to "tell
the truth" and published the entire story, which was:

- Back in 1874 both Cleveland and Folsom, his law partner, had sexual relations with Helpin, a very unstable woman who probably
had a case of nymphomania. Cleveland knew of several other men she had been involved with.

- Helpin became pregnant, but there was no way to know who the real father was. There was a chance that Cleveland or Folsom
might have been the father. She had no way of supporting herself and a child, and was slipping into mental illness. All all the men in Helpin's life tried to wash their hands of her, and the son she bore, except Cleveland.

- Cleveland took over financial reponsibility for the boy until an adoption could be arranged and named him after his law partner and himself. Oscar was adopted by a couple in western New York and Helpin was eventually institutionalized.

In coming clean Cleveland turned the tables on the Republicans. Corruption and honesty were major issues in the 1884 election,
and voters were so impressed by Cleveland's courage in telling the truth, and angry about corrupt favors accepted from the railway industry by Blaine, that he swept New York, the state in which the Republicans had tried to whip up a scandal frenzy. In those days New York held enough Electoral College votes to dominate presidential elections. His take of the popular vote was only 48.5% vs 48.2% for Blaine."

I was thinking of JFK, but wasn't sure if he qualified as having A mistress, as it was rumored there were many women in his life.

Zazzie - might be easier to find a president who [hasn't] had an affair. Of course, there's Jimmy Carter.

hi bobbysoxer - I thought he was so honest to admit that to say that publicly. And I believe most men have 'lusted in the hearts' at some time in their life. Seems normal to me.

Match the President with the woman historians believe to have been his mistress.

I still have so much respect for Jimmy Carter. He was a president for our times, following on Watergate we NEEDED someone who at least behaved in a moral manner.

I love that he could admit that he had lust in his heart... it is just so HUMAN!

Plus... He made it possible for me to have dual nationality.

Didn't Thomas Jefferson have a mistress too. I think it was a black slave that he treated as one of the family. He even took her to Paris. Cannot remember the name.
I think JFK's mistress was Judith Exner or something like that----

Remeber, minova: that Presidents can't be HUMAN with normal, natural flaws -- unless they are republican presidents. Then, it OK.

Zazzie: does it have to be when they were in office? Ronald Reagan supposedly raped an actress named Selene Walters in the early 1950's:

""I opened the door," Walters told People Magazine. "Then it was the battle of the couch. I was fighting him. I didn't want him to make love to me. He's a very big man, and he just had his way. Date rape? No, God, no, that's [Kelley's] phrase. I didn't have a chance to have a date with him."

... and that Nancy Reagan reportedly got boffed by Frank Sinatra. This was while Ronny was president of the Screen Actors Guild.

Well, it must improve their performance to have sweeties on the side.

The most inferior president on the list, Carter, only lusted in his heart.
