I guess you could say I'm a glutton for punishment, eh?

Ok, here's my most recent dilema. Two years ago I moved from a city where I grew up, to a town about an hour away. Since I have ties to my hometown, I wanted to continue getting the newspaper. So when I settled in, I called the newspaper and made arrangements for a weekend subscription (Saturday and Sunday only). I mailed in the payment and waited. The newspaper never came. I made phone calls, wrote letters, but to no avail. So I cancelled my subscription and got a refund.

Three months later a phone solicitor calls and asks if I want a subscription to the newspaper. So I explained the situation, and said we would try again. I mailed in the payment, and once again could not get the paper delivered. I called the area manager, the carrier, etc. but to no avail.
So I cancelled the subscription. The following Sunday, like a miracle, there's a newspaper on my doorstep! And every single weekend since then I have had newspaper delivery. The problem? I don't have a subscription and I'm not paying for it! I called the newspaper and told them what was going on, but I'm still getting delivery!

So - I'm afraid that one day someone is going to figure out that I've been getting the newspaper for years without paying for it! And every Saturday and Sunday when I'm laying in bed reading the paper, I get this creepy feeling that I'm going to be sent to prison for newspaper theft!

What would you do?

Oh yeah, I've heard that before.

Your next line is: "Hurry up"!

By the way, what should I do about the newspaper? Seriously. (Let's TRY!)

You do document everything and keep copies don't you?
Enjoy - they are a gift if you don't ask for them, and can document they were told.

Gravid - That's exactly what I was thinking!

Zilvy - That's the second time I've seen that. What does it mean? Is it St. Pat's Day related? Sounds Irish....

I can handle it, I suppose. The lady that delivers the paper says I'm very accomodating.

Legally you've done all that's required to notify the paper of their error. Proving you've done it may be difficult unless you've documented your contacts. I don't think it will ever become an issue. You have no contract or subscription with the paper therefore you are not obligated to pay for it. If you are truly worried, you could send a certified letter to the paper explaing your concern. That wil provide you with all the prooof you need.

It may be possible that you're being comped. Someone at the paper could have logged your previous complaints and decided to make it up to you.

If the paper is arriving at your home, someone is delivering it. Unless you're getting it via USPS, the delivery person is usually responsible for collections. If he/she is not knocking on your door for payment, there's likely a good reason. Perhaps you could await delivery some Sunday and ask.

...so how many teeth does this horse have?
