Last year, around this time, I looked in the mirror and saw a shriveled up prune. My face was so dry, it looked like I had a layer of egg whites on my face......if I could only peel the top layer off, I would look normal.

So, I went out and bought all sorts of different creams, cleansers, etc., to try and improve things. I ended up spending about $100.00 on products claiming to do all sorts of things.

Well, now it's a year later, and I still look the same. I've tried so many products, but I've come to realize that NONE of them actually do ANYTHING.

Then I started to think......actually not many products do what they claim.

Do you know of ANY cosmetic or other product that ACTUALLY WORKS??

Terry

Terry - Here's the secret for the softest, silky, no wrinkle skin on the planet. Go to the feed store and ask for a product called Bag Balm. It's made for chapped cow udders but guess what else it works on? Yep, the best moisturizer you'll ever find... guaranteed! It's non-scented and much better priced than anything of those other products that don't work.

My two cents.

You may need an exfoliating lotion. It takes the top layer of skin off. My skin is still oily after all these years and I use it to perk up my skin because it gets a dull look.

Start with something mild because it can burn a litte. Ask your doctor too. I have a woman doctor so she knows all about this stuff that woman are always trying. You can get a prescription lotion but it might be too strong.

The other thing is I use a sun blocker every day, even if I don't go out. I have NO wrinkles or fine lines, but I won't tell you how old I am.

mybiddness, my husband's hands crack open something awful in the winter. If he starts using Bag Balm before they crack he has no problems, and it will heal his hands if he forgets. He puts it on at night and sleeps with cotton gloves on. The stuff is amazing! Most larger drug stores carry it now.

Clarins, hands down. Their products do the trick, without making outrageous claims or promising miracles. My two favorite Clarins products: Gentle Foaming Cleanser (face cleanser, without causing dry skin), and the Hand & Nail Cream.

Hi Kraftdinner,

Discounting the gene factor:

More than anything else, drink lots and lots of water. You need to hydrate from the inside.

While I use a cleansing cream on occasion, I really prefer the clean feeling of a cleansing bar. While I like Dove for showering, I don't use it on my face. Although gentle, it's still too drying for the face.

(Personal quirks: I always use white washcloths on my face (no dyes) and I don't cleanse with tissues.)

If you like using a toner after cleansing, make sure it is the right one for you. Some have alcohol, which would be very drying on the wrong skin type.

For the exterior, always use a moisturizer. You don't have to buy an expensive one. You're paying for packaging, name and hype on most of those sold at the cosmetic counter.

If outdoors, always use a sunblock.

cleaning Diet Pepsi off the computer screen....

Best thing I've found is Curel lotion. I use it on my face as well...it soaks in fast and works wonders. But everyone is different. Try the Bag Balm first (it really is amazing stuff). There is also one called "Udder Cream". No comments, please. I live in Wisconsin...it's the law up here that you know this stuff....

Thanks for all of your suggestions everybody! I'm going to try some of that bag balm. Is it greasy??

That's funny about the paper bag.....my face ALREADY looks like I'm wearing one!!

Remember those old Vasaline Intensive Care Lotion ads on TV where they'd have an old dehydrated leaf, then they'd put their lotion on it and it was like brand new?.....I want something like that....ha! ha! ha!

maddienicks....I use Curel now and have found it to be the best thing I've tried so far. I like the fact it isn't greasy at all. I never thought about using it for my face too, but I'll try that tonite.

Thanks!!
