I am hoping that someway by putting this out there those of you who believe in the power of prayer will pray for my family tonight.

My mother, who has brittle diabetes and varicese, is in her final hours in a nursing home and my oldest sister is in ICU at a local hospital with pneumonia and under an incubator following surgery.

The day has been an emotional roller-coaster and all I can think is why?

Trying to keep one from knowing the severity of the other has been extremely difficult.

I can't think - my mind is numb.

Most difficult is the fact my mother is DNR - and standing by and watching her fade away is extremely painful.

I haven't slept in 32 hours. The nursing home has provided a room for the family to rest in, but who can rest. I finally relented and came to my home to care for my dog and felt the need to ask for your prayers.

I doubt I will be able to respond until things settle, but know that I will be for ever grateful for your thoughts and prayers.

your friend,
noteye

My mothers name is Emma Jean Rash.
And my sisters name is Joyce Woodward (only three weeks ago, her husband died of heart failure). Please keep them in your prayers.

I'm sending my good wishes and thoughts your way Noteye, for you and your family. I know what you mean about feeling numb, sometimes it's your body's way of coping. I know it's hard to follow, but please take care of yourself as well. You won't be much help if you get ill too (I've had those very words said to me recently three times in as many weeks). Come back to us when you're able and we will provide an ear, shoulder or whatever you need. Take care dear! Here's my little angel for you

Not the praying type, but I went through the DNR thing with my beloved Grandmother. It is tough, my thoughts are with you. Gather strength from wherever you can, you will need it.

You and your family will be in my thoughts. I'm very sorry you are going though this, and hope you have someone close that you can lean on.

I am not overly religious but I am thinking of you in this difficult time. My own MIL passed away just recently and I can feel your pain. It is never an easy time for anyone.

I wish you and yours all the very best, in what will surely be very testing times ahead for you. {{{{noteye}}}}

noteye

I know what it is like to have a loved one so ill, and to have two of them at the same time must be so hard.

I will say a prayer for them both.

noteye: I will include you and your family in our prayers.

Some hospitals have prayer lists that you can add names to. They're usually located by the chapel, or ask at the information desk.

I will include them and you in my prayers.

Please remember she CAN hear you - tell her whatever comes in your heart and know she is headed for a much better place than here.

Above all hold on to your faith. It will get you through.

Not very religious myself but I definatly believe in the power of prayer! It doesn't matter who or what you say a prayer to it's putting the energy out "there" that really works!
So ,Noteye,I will say a prayer for your family members and especially for you, as hard as this is for them it is worse for you. I am sorry there is so much for you to have to deal with all at once.

My thought and prayers are with you!

Having gone through this just last year with my Dad, my heart is still very close to these issues.

I've been thinking about you all day, and praying for peace for your family. Words can't express it...

Hi, I just stopped by over here and saw this. My heart goes out to you and I will be praying too. I have been through some hard times myself and I can relate. Just try to let go and let God. Pax Tecum

I've been there - the nursing home, the DNR order, the aunt in the ICU at a hospital, all at the same time, and the secret keeping to keep things as easy as possible. It's overwhelming. It breaks my heart for you.

Prayers ascending. And if I can do any little thing for you, my email is on the sig line.

I'm so sorry.
