Morel mushrooms. This is about one pound, the most I've ever found in one day. Eureka!
To us hillbillies, these are like truffles are to the French. A delicacy for dern tootin'.

Okay, I'll bite. What exactly does one do with fungi truffles?
(if I don't want to know, please don't answer! Just enjoy them as you see fit!)

Haha! Obviously, you all haven't ever tried Morel mushrooms.
Best tasting fungus fruit you'll ever try.

They look like tiny sea sponges. Is that what you were thinking james?
I bet they're yummy!

Not really.
Actually, those probably taste great. I like mishrooms.

Most people prepare these by dipping in egg batter and flour or bread crumbs, then pan frying.
To me, that ruins most of the flavor. I like them best sauteed in butter with a pinch of salt and pepper.

very nice - we find those here in Michigan but if someone knows a spot it is guarded better than a good fishing hole.

Ken
It's mushroom season around here, and it's a short season. I'll be going about every other day for the next week or two.
Hey! The other day I didn't find any mushrooms but I did find a pile of very old trash out in the woods, plus an 1893 Indian Head Penny laying in the dirt.
The few interesting items I found in the
trash pile I'm selling on ebay now!
So, I'm working while I'm mushroom hunting. LOL

Wow,loosecannon, I'm envious. I haven't found any in my yard in three years! The first time I found them I had wandered over to my cat's grave and there they were - right on top. My vet asked if I ate them and I said "of course I did". She looked shocked so I said that I knew how to identify them so I wasn't afraid of dropping dead. She said that wasn't what grossed her out.

Deeeeelish! Just got a bunch of those from a buddy last weekend. Sauteed ( sp? ) them with butter and put them over rice - made a whole meal of them. My taste buds were doing happy dances all over the place.
Mushroom hunting season is upon us!

Ohhh... the memories. My grandmother, brother, sister, and I would hunt for these in the woods behind her farm in Ohio when I was young. I remember having to look under yucky piles of leaves and near logs.
This is the same grandmother that hunted groundhog. We ate it not knowing what it was.

There are actually a number of things that they look like to me, and none of them is edible. LOL
I don't like mushrooms at the best of times, let alone something that looks like it belongs in the back corner of the yard, where the dog likes to go. Eewwwwww
