A lady who posts on a message board I read has a daughter who has run away. Here is the url from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children:

The mom didn't share that, although I gathered she has run away before. I've only been reading on that group for a couple of months and don't know all the history of the posters.

That is a rough thing to know what to do. Remembering a couple kids in my class that ran away they were treated worse at home than on the road. Guess I would want to know why before I sent them home or to the social services.

That's sort of what I was thinking, gravid. The general perception is that it's bad news for a kid to run away from home. But I would guess that in at least some cases running away may be a safer alternative than staying put, particularly if there is some kind of abuse going on in the home. But usually when the call goes out for the missing kid all you ever hear is the parents' version.

Boils down again to abuse is worse for a girl because she can get pregnant. Every other aspect of it is just as bad for a boy.
There was one boy in my High School finally left home because his Dad was one of these sickos that would set impossible standards
or invent new rules retroactively and then it was "Look what you made me do." when he inflicted some crude sick punishment. He would destroy things in the house like clothing or the TV even though he had paid for them. Once he threw dinner out in the yard because someone did not get to the table fast enough, and said we won't eat tonight.

Whatever this girl's situation I hope she's safe...
A few years ago my husband's Search and Rescue Team got a call for a missing ten year old boy in a nearby town. Long story short, they found the boy hiding under the house. He wasn't "missing" - he was trying to avoid another beating. The only surprise was that anyone had bothered to report him as missing at all. He was a tiny little guy and had unbelievable black/blue welts up and down his back. He said his step father had done it to him. I have often wondered what happened to him.
