I've had enough of this junk landing in my inbox. I'm tired of chain letters, wise words from Mahatma Gandhi and George Carlin, witticisms of children and touching stories. I'm sick of seeing the giant cat and the cat flipping off the camera. I don't want any more jokes or political commentary.
Some of my friends and relatives send this stuff constantly. I've even told my mom I don't want it, yet I don't want to say that too harshly because, well, she's my mama! How can I tactfully tell these people to stop? Or am I just stuck with this junk?
(Yes, I do hit the "delete" button, but would prefer to cut it off at the source.)

I just tell them to knock it off and that my email is my business email and not for junk. If they care and are my friend/family, they will stop. If they dont, I block them and they can call me instead.

I do have extensive filters on my email at work, but they don't include my friends' and family's email addresses. Just stuff like "get rich quick," "viagra" and the like.
I love getting real email from these people, just not the junk! Oh well, I know there are much bigger things to worry about. I was just a little irritated this morning after receiving the Giant Cat picture three separate times.
how about a "FWD" filter that deposits e-mails with that in the subject line in the trash...?
IME, 99% of e-mails I get with FWD in the subject line are junk or jokes...
Ask? No tact necessary....just inform them that you prefer to not be on their joke or junk mail forwarding lists...
I did that with my wife's friends after we got married and also put a message size filter on her mailboxes to eliminate the huge .bmp images her friends would always send her of a politician humping a mule or something...
Eventually, they got the message and our network hard drives are a lot more spacious...*G*

Just an email message with a link to this thread... yep, I think that would do the trick! None too subtle but very effective, LOL.

I have two different emails addresses, one for business and one I give to friends and relatives to reach me through.
I tell them my business email is just that - the only junk emails I allow to that address are from eBay.
If I were you I would get a second 'free-email' address and email them all and tell the 'here is my new email, be sure and email me here or you may not reach me'.
Just what I would do.

My thoughts on this issue have gone 'Un-Surveyed' and may not be of importance to the P.T.B.

"Dear Joe (or pete or mom or etc.), while I really enjoy personal emails from you, I don't have the time or system capacity to handle any extra traffic such as cartoons, chains, forwards, etc. In addition, my system was passed a virus through one of these forwards last week, and I just cannot take on another. Thanks in advance for understanding, and I DO look forward to your personal emails. "

Oh, Rainy Bear, I have the same problem with a very dear friend of 31 years. We wrote letters for years. Then she got a computer too. All I receive from her is the same junk day after day. It's all forwarded. I never receive mail that includes anything personal any longer. It hurts. I was so bold as to actually be direct about how much I dislike all the forwarded mail, and asked if she would just spend a few minutes to write and tell me what's happening in her life. She didn't "talk" to me for a year - and that's tough since my son and her daughter are now married. She's since started forwarding all her junk mail again. I won't say another word about it, I'll just continue deleting.

That's sad dogdays - maybe that's all she can do anymore and the writing skills did not transfer over to the computer too well. sorry for you.
