I can only give answers as to my area, but I believe it would be okay most everywhere else also, but don't quote me. The best for homes is to attach it with a rubber band around the door handle. You can have problems if you use tape to older homes. On cars lift the drivers window wiper and put it under the wiper blade, ( drivers side to get attention, and avoid it not being seen maybe causing an accident if it comes off ). One other tip, when going to homes. Attach it quick, and run like hell. Some hate fliers, me included.

Everytime a flier is left under my windshield wiper, I get really angry and never even consider the company, etc. leaving it there. They've lost my business permanently. Plus they litter the parking lots, because so many folks feel the way I do.
I will, however, pick up a flier from a table or if someone is handing it out in person because then I don't feel obligated and attacked. Have someone stand by the front door or entrance of the mall (whatever) and hand them out for you. Maybe your pre-teen neighbor? I'm sure they could use $10 for some work.
If you leave it on someone's door, please put it in a plastic bag and tie it on the knob. Don't ring the bell under any circumstances.

If I could not afford to mail something I would never leave it at people's door. It is just something more for them to have to clean up and if they have gone off for a vacation or something and don't have someone attending the house it announces to all the break-in artists that nobody is at home.
