Came home tonight to find my cats pursuing a lil' green froggie all around the house. Tried to capture the critter with a cup so I could release it outside, but it was too fast. Now it's hiding somewhere, and I'm worried that, out of sheer terror, it will remain in hiding and die, which kinda isn't what I had in mind...

Is there anyway to lure the frog...or trap it? LOL...I know this is goofy, but the frog has to go...

Some frogs are attracted to a spot of light in surrounding darkness. Some folks swear if you to mount a candle on a board that floats and slowly draw it along the edge of a pond in the black of night, frogs will hop right on up. Not sure I believe it, though.

I've seen them gather on patios outside windows where some light pours out, possibly because nocturnal insects are drawn there and the frogs have come to associate the light with food source.

Just a thought: if you leave a plate of water out in the middle of the floor overnight, he may be drawn to it. He's bound to need moisture and may be drawn to whatever's available.

But, if the frog doesn't want to be found, you're not going to find it. If it's any comfort, I have a fire-bellied toad somewhere in my place. A pet, he finally escaped his tank after 7 years of trying and hasn't been seen since. I'm assuming he's dead. Anyway, he didn't smell when he died, nor will your frog. They tend to dry up rather than bloat out.

I used to have a small indoor pond, an periodic frog chases were part of the deal. I suggest using a towel kind of like a net rather than a cup. Shaking furniture that's suspected of harboring the fugitive can get a jump out of 'em, but I never found a sure-fire way to lure 'em out or chase 'em out. Good luck.

Turn on the faucet in the sink, and have it run lightly over dishes so it sounds like a waterfall. Then dim the lights. After doing that, take a pillow and put it in the middle of the floor. Kneel on pillows with knees. Quietly, say these words, one after the other:

"Ribbet. Ribbbbet. Ribbetttt. Riiibbet".

(Maybe its a male frog and he will think you want to mate)

Thanks, folks. I like the towel idea, and will try that if he reappears. Will try the water dish idea, too. I'm going to segregate the cats as well, as I'm sure he won't reappear at all as long as he knows they are still stalking him.

I have this large wicker chaise/chair in my living room. It's reinforced underneath and I suspect he is holed up inside it. Might have to turn that over. If he's in shock, maybe I can catch him off guard...

What a way to start the weekend.

Freedom for the froggie!

He was under the chair. I turned it over, hit it a couple times, and he appeared. Threw a towel over him and escorted him outside. I feel so much better and I bet he does, too. Thanks again for the smart ideas.

The mods can lock this one up. Especially before Hepburn makes any more obscene suggestions.

I'd just make the cats skip dinner. They'll find that sucker for you before morning.

Did you kiss it?
If you didn't you'll never know if it was really a handsome prince!
