Although I was never a CC fan, my parents were (the reaallly old stuff anyway) and my Dad loved Chet Atkins so I grew up listening to him. I remember wanting to learn to play the guitar just like him! I still have a bunch of his older records! Too bad I don't have a turntable, I'd put some on and take a trip down memory lane.

This is very sad.
I sort of had a premonition not long ago that he would pass away, because I haven't heard anything about him for a few years at least. And this man was so influential throughout his career. He was very much in the limelight, in guitar player circles anyway, for decades, and then not to hear his name mentioned for a long time...
Chet Atkins was a big influence on my own playing style, and I learned a lot from listening to his records...actually, I downright stole as many of his guitar licks as I could, which was and is a compliment. I was fortunate enough to see him perform in concert once.
But perhaps even more sad than his passing, is that so few people today seem to acknowledge how important this man was in the American music industry, and to the guitar in particular.
