What the AW opinion on this situation? I have been working late the past few days and havent been able to catch up on alot of the current news and just read in this mornings newspaper that a stewardess claimed to have had an affair with Condit. I also heard from people at work in general discussion that Condit's wife was also being asked questions since she was in town visiting her husband at the time Levy came up missing. So far, no more developments in her disappearance, but now here is a stewardess coming forward. Anyone know what is going on and care to share your thoughts?

Hi Hepburn - What I've been reading is that Condit's attorney had sent the stewardess' attorney a paper for her to sign stating they had never been envolved with one another. In other words, to lie about their relationship that she states was on going for almost a year. Condit's attorney denies that this happened. So....could it be someone who's trying to really make Condit look bad, or get even with him for one reason or another??? Who knows.
From one of the articles I read this morning, it says that the police have now questioned a total of 6 women that Condit supposedly has been involved with. Levy only being one of them. Guess these other women came forward a while back, we (the public) just now hearing about it though. The police have already questioned them, according to the news today.
I don't remember what illness Condit's wife is suffering from, but I saw a picture of him, his wife and his daughter....and his wife is a 'knock-out'. (beautiful)

Shosh, hiya! Actually, yes. I am keeping cool. Foggy and overcast today. Beats what I have been hearing is happening around the rest of the country.
LindaK, thanks for the update. I heard about the stewardess yesterday and just wondered how they found her to begin with. Dont politicians ever learn that what they do in the bedroom eventually is told to the public? Do they actually think they are in a bubble and nobody will EVER talk about it when they "break up"? Guess not.

Eye Condit Hells Angels Link
Pol has outlaw bikers for friends,
probers say
By TIMOTHY J. BURGER and HELEN KENNEDY
Daily News Washington Bureau
WASHINGTON
<Picture>nvestigators searching for missing intern Chandra Levy are probing Rep. Gary Condit's ties to the Hells Angels motorcycle gang, the Daily News has learned.
Condit, who rides a Harley when he is home in his northern California district, has close ties to members of the infamous outlaw bikers, said sources close to the Levy family investigation.
"These are bad guys to be involved with," said one investigator.
Condit's former longtime aide, biker Vince Flammini, taught the congressman to ride and introduced him to Hells Angels' leaders, investigators said.
Flammini, 62, has told reporters Condit could be emotionally harsh, but "he would never hurt a fly."
Anne Marie Smith, 39, the flight attendant who says she had a 10-month affair with Condit that ended in May, said she remembers the congressman once telling her he was going to attend an upcoming Hells Angels bash.
"He told me he had to keep it secret from his brother because it was a birthday party for a cop killer," Smith told The News.
Condit's brother Burl is a sergeant with the Modesto police.
Meanwhile, The News has learned that on April 29, Levy left a message on her aunt's machine saying, "I have big news."
"She didn't sound downtrodden. She sounded like she had something exciting to tell," said a source close to the family.
Investigators working for the Levy family believe it's a major clue and are looking at the possibility she could have been killed to silence her about something she had learned.
"The big news might be what got her killed. Maybe she found out something," said the source close to the Levy family.
Investigators are also considering the possibility that Levy, 24, could have been pregnant, though no testing kit was found in her apartment.
Condit, 53, told police he last spoke to Levy April 29. She vanished May 1.
In other developments:
The Levy family private investigators have located a security tape showing Levy buying juice and chatting cheerily with a clerk at a 7-Eleven in Arlington, Va., on April 29. Investigators are interested because Levy, who does not have a car, was far from home.
Condit's wife, Carolyn, was interviewed by the FBI in northern Virginia. She was accompanied by her husband's lawyer, Abbe Lowell.
Police had been trying to schedule an interview with Carolyn Condit for more than a week to ask about her visit to Washington in late April. She was with her husband when Levy was calling him repeatedly as she prepared to leave town. Cops wanted to know if she had any contact with Levy and if she could verify her husband's whereabouts.
It was unclear why the interview took place in Washington and not in California.
Condit's lawyer released a statement explaining Condit couldn't make his hometown Fourth of July parade because he was flying to Washington with his wife for the interview.
He also blasted press "efforts to dissect and mischaracterize his and his family's private lives" and said Condit would maintain his media silence.
"Unlike some, Congressman Condit remains singularly focused on what is and remains the central mission at this time — locating Chandra Levy," the statement said. "The media risks losing its focus with what has been a recent and seemingly unbounded effort to expose highly personal and private Condit family matters."
Washington Police Chief Charles Ramsey told reporters yesterday that suicide is close to being discounted.
"As time goes on, the possibility of suicide becomes more and more remote, because you would find the remains," Ramsey said. "You can't kill yourself and then bury yourself."
Ramsey repeatedly stressed that Condit is not a suspect and only one of a hundred people interviewed.
He became irritated when reporters asked if allegations that Condit urged his flight attendant mistress to lie to the FBI would give cops probable cause to search his apartment.
"That's a heckuva leap. I'm not trying to find a flight attendant. I'm trying to find Chandra Levy," he said. "We're not the sex police."
The News reported Wednesday that flight attendant Anne Marie Smith accused Condit of lying when he put out a statement saying he never asked anyone to mislead investigators.
Smith's lawyer, Jim Robinson, said the congressman's lawyer sent Smith a false affidavit claiming they had not had an affair and then called her, urging her personally to sign it.
NO JOKE: HIS WEB SITE ADVERTISES FOR INTERNS
By JOHN LEHMANN
July 6, 2001 -- Rep. Gary Condit is trolling for fresh interns in his congressional office - despite continuing controversy surrounding the mysterious disappearance of D.C. intern Chandra Levy.
The California Democrat's official government Web site is seeking interns, boasting about the "extremely rewarding experience" of answering telephones in his office.
The site features a photo of the 53-year-old married congressman, smiling, and an e-mail application form for budding interns.
"Whether interning in Modesto, Merced or Washington, D.C., working in one of Rep. Condit's offices can be an extremely rewarding experience," the Web site says, referring to two towns in his home district.
"Typical duties of interns can range from assisting with phones to researching legislative projects."
The attractive. 24-year-old Levy was an intern with the Federal Bureau of Prisons when she met Condit. She vanished about two months ago.
Levy's family believes she was having an affair with Condit.
The congressman has denied that, but admitted she was a "good friend" and reportedly told cops that she had visited his D.C. apartment.
Political strategists said Condit's decision to look for interns while Levy's disappearance remains unsolved is a bad move.
"To many, it will sound like a sick joke," consultant George Arzt told The Post, adding that Condit should remove the intern solicitation from his Web site.
"You always have to staff an office, but he should advertise privately until the present situation is cleared up."
Republican pollster Kellyanne Conway, who has defended Condit in the past, ridiculed the job offer.
"He could say on the site: 'If you need a place to stay in D.C., you can always crash at Chez Condit,'" Conway said.
Democratic consultant Jerry Skurnik said Condit is in a "no-win situation" over the job ad.
"It will be taken the wrong way by some people, but if he removes it, it looks like he's done something wrong," he said.
Condit spokesman Mike Lynch did not return calls.
Many members of Congress advertise for new interns on their Web sites.
Levy's parents, Robert and Susan Levy, of Modesto, Calif., believe their daughter was having an affair with Condit before her disappearance on April 30.
The congressman's plight worsened this week when United Air Lines flight attendant Anne Marie Smith charged in a Fox News Channel interview that he tried to get her to lie in an affidavit about their relationship.
Condit denied the allegation.
There were also reports that five other women who claim to have had affairs with Condit have been interviewed by investigators.
Meanwhile, the NASCAR team Melling Racing has put a bumper sticker with Levy's picture on the back of Stacy Compton's car for Saturday's Pepsi 400, to drum up publicity for the Levy search.
The idea was proposed by the TV show "America's Most Wanted."
The sticker includes Levy's picture and the show's telephone number, 1-800-CRIMETV.

On the CBS news this morning, the network's DC correspondent said that Condit stated he did not want to start a "media circus" which might interfer with the official investigation and pointed out that finding Levy was what was important.
Then, that same correspondent said he had spoken to Levy's aunt, and she had told him that Levy said she and Condit had talked about marriage and even starting a family.
So much for not starting a "media circus"...I guess the "show must go on"!

Yep, he went to a Pearl Jam concert on A HARLEY so he must be guilty, EXCEPT...The STAR has the whole story---he dumped her so she jumped into the Potomac. The FBI will release the info any day now, BUT......one of her friends has an email from her in which she says that her boyfriend in Washington is "someone who's with the FBI".
Further facts in detail will be available in the morning edition of the National Enquirer,,err, Star,.....err, both. Late breaking compilations of those reports can be viewed through the day on your local FOX news affiliate.
There's a website where YOU can donate funds to help pay the family investigation expenses.

Hey, I saw that Harley myself!
It is interesting that our local paper, which is decidedly liberal (The parent company owns the Sacramento, Modesto and Fresno Bees), has such in-depth coverage of this incident.
I guess circulation is more important than political philosophy...
