Sorry Twinsoft, I couldn't resist this. I know you are not a shill but you may want to cancel that bid. Good luck in the venture, I will register and list in a few weeks.

Dimview, thanks for bringing that to my attention. I have corrected the Post A New Item Form to reflect the correct number of relists. An item may be automatically relisted up to 4 times.
Newguy, the "first bid" is automatically placed in the seller's name. It is the "minimum acceptable bid." Also, if there is a reserve price, it shows up as a bid by the seller. Sellers may not bid on their own items, except to set the minimum bid or reserve price. As a further security measure, each member is limited to one account (alias) only. I hope that answers your question. If not, please send me the item number at [email protected]

Hello Twinsoft.
That happens in the EveryAuction software which it looks like you are running. It looked funny to a lot users and I think there is an add-on to change it. Good luck with this open source software, it is a pretty decent package. I started installing it in 97 on various servers but have not worked with it lately.

Hi, Newguy. Yes, we are using EveryAuction. It seems like a good program. The first bid thing is a little strange, but this is a great free auction software package. Lumps in the sugar, I suppose. I've already installed many addon scripts but I don't know if there's a fix like you suggest for this current version. I will add some material to our tutorial pages that explains this "anomaly."
As you know, members at eBay and other sites often maintain several aliases, or user IDs. I see this as an integrity issue. It creates an artificially inflated membership list, and also makes it more difficult to spot unsavory bidding practices. Our software blocks multiple registration from the same email account, and I have explicitly set a policy regarding multiple aliases.
However, that policy is not written in stone. As our membership grows, that issue will no doubt arise again and if a majority of users want multiple IDs I am willing to go along with it, though I personally disagree for the reasons stated above.

Twinsoft, while I've only really used one ID for all my auction stuff sometimes I think it would be nice to set myself up a buying only ID. When I'm actively selling and buying at the same time it gets really confusing having everything come into the same mailbox.
Everysoft blocks second registration from the same e-mail address, but what if someone should register with a different e-mail address? Would the system not allow it?

We can't stop a user from registering with a second email address. However, as I said, that violates our terms of use.

By the way, in checking my code for that first bid thing, I did come across an error. I've fixed it so we will see if that solves the problem. I also managed to knock the site offline for about five minutes. WHOOPS!!

My first complaint? I was going to list some items on the site but noticed that images can only be 200 x 200. Is that mandatory or a suggested size?

Morgantown, the pictures can be any size. The software supports image uploading but we are not offering that feature because of limited server space. That is why the dialog says 200x200.
The picture is placed inside a table with item info in another table cell, so a big picture will squeeze the text off to the side. I will redo the page shortly to separate the picture from the table.
I'll also update the Post A New Item page and remove the text. Glad you are joining us. (I consider that a personal victory, LOL!)
