Browsing through some old bookmarks tonight I came across a site I signed up for ages ago but I recall being moribund back then so I never returned until now-- http://www.cityauction.com/-- right on the home page it says "Top 5 Picks" so I clicked on "laptops"--- holy moly, *thats* where all the bidders are hiding! One laptop has over 400 (!!) bids!
I did a quick tally of the site, there's over 267,000 auctions in all categories, jewelry having the most at 103,000. Downside is there doesn't appear to be any message or commnity boards, at least none that I found.
Might be worth looking into, the site certainly seems slick and professional, on a positive note it looks nothing like eBay (for a change) and yes, there are fees involved, looks like FVF only, but I leave it to those more informed on such matters to look into it & comment.
Overall it looks pretty good to me, the help pages alone impress.

CityAuction is one of the Fairmarket auctionsites, which is interesting because I thought Fairmarket was getting out of the marketplace.
No listings fees, but there are final value fees:
Seller Transaction Fees (Note: fees are additive) From $0.01 To $25.00 5.00% Per Listing From $25.01 To $1,000.00 2.50% Per Listing From $1,000.01 and up 1.25% Per Listing
I found the same listings at Lycos, which I believe are free of all charges.

That's correct. All sites using the FairMarket Auction platform have all their listings spread throughout all the fairmarket sites.
So. . .All lycos listings will not only be on lycos, but also cityauction, and any other fairmarket auction site. CityAuction listings will also show up on Lycos . .etc. . etc. . .
You can get a list of all fairmarket sites by visiting www.fairmarket.com
The best bet here is of course to find the site with the cheapest rates. Lycos is completely free I think, and then your auctions are exposed to everyone viewing a fairmarket auction site.

ok..... so what happens when an item sells on a Lycos site? CityAuction charge FVF's, does an item that sells on a *free* site simply vanish from the pay ones? Or do it show as a completed auction? If that's the case, any "completed auction" (sell thru)stats from the pay site would be misleading and useless.......
