I'd like to start an auction site that would allow users to buy and sell items on a continual basis rather than an individual basis. In other words, an auction that would resemble the New York Stock Exchange rather than eBay. Does anyone know of a site that allows this?

I'm not aware of such a site, although some elements of a stock exchange style selling do exist.
For example, bargainandhaggle.com is geared towards price negotiations between seller and potential buyers but items listed have an ending date.
On Half.com many sellers can list the same item (i.e. are making an offer to sell) and buyers choose the seller they wish to buy from. Presumably, with condition of the items being equal, they'd choose the lowest offer to sell.

This would not be an Auction per say auctions have a starting point and a ending point.
continuious selling would be a store.
Closest thing to Continious auction you can get is dutch auctions even they have a start time and end time.
next thing would be your average auction script with a built in auto relist feature even when the items get A winning bid but not sure this would be to popular as Items searching the sight it would always look the same selling the same items endlessly even a store like walmart changes inventory monthly and seasonally .

I think the type of site envisioned by the starter of this thread would allow a potential BUYER to LIST an offer to buy a specific item at a specific price from ANYONE who meets the price. At the same time, sellers may, independently, list an offer to sell to ANYONE the same item at a different price.
If a buyers' price should match a sellers' price, then a deal is concluded. If not, both would have to wait until someone else came along willing to sell at the bid price or buy at the ask price.

Irene, that's right.
For example, let's say I had 100,000 FF miles. Rather than sell it all in one block, I might do better offering smaller blocks to those who needed enough to get an award. Maybe I'd offer 5000 miles @ x while a bidder might bid y for 2200 miles. Of course the bidder one day might turn around and sell the miles the next day...
Does anyone know of any software that would allow this type of transaction?
