I'm sorry the thread about the porn pop-up has been locked. I do want to let everyone know that the source of the pop-up is *not* coming via source code on Bidville webpages. The link RB copied from the properties window indicates that the pop-up originates from www.whenu.com, an online shopping service.
http://a1964.g.akamai.net/f/1964/2730/1h/www.whenu.com/pop_up/pop_imgs/<file_name_deleted>
Information on the client redirects through www.akamai.net, by an Akamai representative, is found here

I hope the moderators will allow a brief period for relevant follow-up.

That's exactly why I started that post Dim ... to try to find out if anyone knew where this smut was originating, not to complain about seeing it.
Thanks for sharing your expertise with this. Hope The Prez is reading this as he has no idea of where it's coming from either.

BTW, I did visit the www.whenu.com homepage just to see what they were up to. Then searched my hard drive for "akamai" and darn, they already had a cookie there.
Sheesh!

I have a pop up killer so I haven't seen the ones for porn.
The only one the killer has no effect on is the X-10 camera pop up. I used to get that one every time I clicked Community on BV. Yesterday and today every time I go to BV I get 5 seperate pop-ups in a row for that darn camera instead of the 1. Is this happening to anyone else?

kasmoon ... Apparently there are others who are getting multiple pop-ups according to some of the posts over there. I think one poster said if you minimize the first one, you don't get the subsequent ones.

I get the 4 or 5 from the camera ad also. I have not seen the porn one yet...

I was not doubting the Bidville PREZ's statement that the porn pop-ups, were not coming from Bidville. All I was saying is that is the only place I ever received one. I have received 4 total, while listing auctions. A few Bidville Seller's were kind of assuming that we were lying, from the tone of their posts. The last one I got was a desk top stripper. She didn't look to bad, but then of course I have a table top stripper, {My wife) But I do know one thing, I am going to be getting a pop-up killer real soon. I had four spy-cams pop up in a row today. Well I do thank you "dimview" for the info, even though you weren't to fond of me at the other boards. See ya! Hillbilly

The Pop-ups are getting really bad at Bidville, I get one on each page I click on. Hard to edit those auctions, with pop-ups hitting me on every page. I have never seen the porn ones.

...and now that it has been determined that the XXX popups are NOT originating from Bidville, I see that RB (Buzzoon) doesn't have the common decency to publicly apologize to the president of Biville (Ed).
He sure was fast to condemn Ed publicly and refer to his actions as 'sleazy'.
He was sooooo sure that Ed was lying to him.
Take a big bite of that special sandwich that all hypocrites have to bite from, RB (Buzzoon)!

Everyone knows I like to be thorough. So I've pulled the Engage/Flycast source code from Bidville's home page and learned that Engage/Flycast utilizes akamai.net for serving some advertisement banners only:
http://a4.g.akamai.net/7/4/2924/0/jeeves.flycast.com/gif/98/46/<file_name_deleted>
as an example
The video camera pop-ups, by the way, are being generated by Engage/Flycast whenever the video camera advertisement banner displays on the top of a Bidville page.
Now on to FastClick.
FastClick's source code utilizes a javascript to access a cgi script on their server. I pieced together the URL for it which ends with pop.cgi?sid=<IDnumber deleted> and learned that it only displays advertisement banners.
I found none served from akamai.net.
And no pop-ups.

RB,
I have deleted your post because it contained information from another message board. Stuff from other message boards is not allowed to be brought here as it is disruptive.

Good Call, Joice! The comics were getting out of hand! So, Dim, now what are you saying? Maybe it did come from BidVille? I am confused.

Although it was reasonable to conclude that the questionable pop-up didn't come from the source code on Bidville's webpages based on the "properties" of the questionable pop-up itself, I wanted to be thorough and actually examine the Engage/Flycast and FastClick source code snipets and see what they did.
I actually created two HTML files of the snipets and ran them repeatedly in browser windows to determine what images were served and where they were served from.
I am fully satisfied that the questionable pop-ups are *not* via Bidville.
typos. again.

This would be the lime green banner advertisement, that also launches a series of pop-ups, proclaiming:
Tiny Wireless Video Camera
Put it anywhere!
Yeah right.
I'd like to tell them where to *put* their camera.

Yes, I have had the same problem with pop-ups when trying to move around Bidville in any direction. Another problem is that at the bottom of my screen in the grey box where we see the words 'Document: Done'; I have been receiving a message that states: Connect: Contactinghost:mirror.qkimg.net...
Whatever it is makes it impossible to go the boards or move around at Bidville. Added the ad-aware and found 93 new components of which I deleted them all, also went into Netscape and removed the file called 'cookiestxt' and yet this is still there. It appears only when using bidville, I can move around here or anywhere else on the internet without having that come up. Strange. Ontime

Same problem with pop-ups here. I've tried to use BV several times to scan book auctions, but the pop-ups are so disruptive and annoying that I find BidVille unusable.
Bidville, I hope that you monitor this thread... this problem occurs mainly on your site!

Bidville has agreements with Engage/Flycast and FastClick to place advertisement advertisement banners on its webpages, for either revenue or an exchange of some sort.
I've not found the FastClick banner advertisement to be intrusive, however the Engage/Flycast advertisement banner, in addition to the images at the top and bottom of Bidville's webpages, all open multiple pop-ups advertisements as well. The most notable is the "Tiny Wireless Video Camera."
Now Engage/Flycast stores their advertisers images on other servers, the "Tiny Wireless Video Camera" is stored at akamai.net:
http://a4.g.akamai.net/7/4/2924/0/jeeves.flycast.com/rich/62/47/54762016/468x60_lime.gif
As noted earlier, I have pulled the script for calling up the Engage/Flycast banner advertisements and found they are served from www.qksrv.net and mirror.qkimg.net for the ProPAY banner advertisements.
With me so far?
Okay.
Now when you click on Bidville's home page, for instance, your browser begins to write the text and pull the images defined in the source code. The completed page is dependent on the ability of your browser to get all the images. If for some reason an image is not immediately available, your browser will SIT AND WAIT FOR IT[/b]. It will {i]HANG the browser and after a period of time, if still not available, it will timeout and place the red X box where the image should be.
If you have loaded a webpage with the pertinent information you need and your browser is hanging up waiting for banner advertisement images, just click the STOP button. It will be cumbersome but this is the only way you will be able to navigate the Bidville auctionsite.
Perhaps a BIDVILLE REPRESENTATIVE will be able to pop-in and comment on the banner advertisements and pop-ups!

Dimview,
Thanks for your insite! I will try to hit the stop button the next time I try to access Bidville. How can we get rid of the codes for the following: doublclick; flyswat; admonitor; valueclick; javaapplets and Engage/flycast? I'm guessing that it would not be possible. Thanks again!! Ontime

There's software out there that will cause the browser to not render banner advertisements, not sure of the exact one(s) that do it though.
Next time your browser is hanging, hit the STOP button, and take a look at what has not been rendered. You're likely to find missing banner advertisements at either the top or bottom, or both, of the Bidville page.
This is one of the problems with pulling stuff from numerous servers. It increases the chances that something won't be available ... how many times have you seen the "counters" hanging an auction listing page? < GRIN >
