On the other hand you could look at it like this they are putting there advertiseing $$ where they are already getting fee advertiseing by word of mouth.

A site's only going to get favorable word of mouth if it delivers, and BargainandHaggle is certainly delivering (solid sales and great prices). If it wasn't people wouldn't hesitate to rip them! There's too much mediocrity in the "Other Online auction" space, and BargainandHaggle may be the only site that isn't mediocre right now.

I like the format for negotiating price but I wouldn't switch from eBay to pay BargainandHaggle's 5% FVF.

I'm not an eBay fan and I don't even bother looking at Yahoo Auctions anymore but I don't consider 5% much of an alternative to eBay.

I'm still hoping for an auction site that advertises and charges a flat monthly fee ($20-$25) for unlimted listing.

I think my items on BnH sell for more than they would on Ebay. You might want to look at it that way.

It's an alternative for people that want a "riskless" site with good sell through and great prices for the items that sell. Riskless in the sense that there are no listing fees that you might lose if your item doesn't sell, unlike eBay. With eBay you pay a front-end and backend fee. With BargainandHaggle you pay only a backend fee. (you do have the option to pay additional to highlight your listing on either site with eBay's fees much higher) Plus your items list free for 30 day periods on BargainandHaggle as opposed to eBay's limit of 10 days which you pay for whether your item sells or not. Multiple pic image hosting is also free on BargainandHaggle whereas eBay charges you for more than 1 picture. eBay gouges sellers every which way they can, but BargainandHaggle hasn't done so, YET!

Who cares who you pay the 5% FVF to as long as the item sells and for a good price? I couldn't care less where my item sells as long as it sells!

Do you need to give them a credit card number and your life's financial history in order to list, or do they trust you?

If the latter, I'll go there today. I've got a ton of DVDs and videotapes to sell

If the former, oh well ...

Sasoony,

eSeller makes a good point. Remember that eBay has a listing fee from .30 to $3.30 per item, plus additional fees for hosting images (or you pay someone else, and deal with the hassle of URLs etc.), and no free re-list. Stuff sells rapidly, and 5% is the only place where Bargain and Haggle is higher. Once you get past that, Bargain and Haggle is actually lower and still no listing fee.

Plus, I just think haggling is a lot more fun than auctions... And if your going to be doing this for hours on end, you need a little fun in your life.

Yes, right now you need to submit a Credit card or Debit card in order to sell on the site and insure BargainandHaggle can bill you for their fees. They claim they're working on alternative payment methods. Who knows when that'll come out?

Thanks eseller. I figure if I am going to break down and get a credit card, the only place where I will use it is eBay. In spite of their rules and fees, they really are the only truly successful on-line auction site.

Good luck.

RB,

What's your specific issue with getting a credit card?

I guess I'm old fashioned. If I don't have the money, I can't buy the item. Plus I have heard (and seen the results of) many horror stories about providing a CC number through a so-called secured connection. At late as last week, a very prominent auctioneer was invoiced $40.00 on her CC for some porn service. She was very nervous about this and had all of her accounts closed.

While I realize that most cards have fraud protection, it's a PITA to have to request and wait for a new one.

Besides, I could never figure out why a seller has to provide this when the real people that should have to prove they have the ability to pay (the buyers) don't.

What's the matter with someone like me sending B&H a cheque or a money order every now and then, and then work it off on fees. eBay used to do this.

You know the real reason why they insist on a credit card AND bank account information now? It has "something" to do with all that SPAM that sellers get soon after providing this info to the venue

This is why I like Bargain and Haggle...

I sold the same item on both ebay and Bargain and Haggle. The final price I sold it for on ebay was $41.00 (after 7 days). Total fees paid on that item: over $7 (listing and final fees). The same item sold on bargain and haggle for $40 (sold in 2 days after I listed it). Total fees: $2.

I think that speaks for itself. Bye bye ebay!
