ilene,
I have sold items on ***Bay (we are allowed to mention the name here), Epier, and BidVille. If you have a great % of your items selling on ebay and a great return on your money (after fees), then I would suggest staying with ebay and testing the waters with another site. You will not get the same results at the free sites, but I have had over a hundred transactions close at these free sites since February. Good Luck!

I also sell a little on ebay. I am just speaking for myself but I like Bidville alot and that is my home site. I also list on Auctionsaloon and believe that site given time will do well. Outside of ebay I do get most of my sells on bidville and I also buy their. Have a nice buying/selling day.

The only 4 other sites I would recommend are Yahoo, BargainandHaggle, Amazon Marketplace and Half.com. You can make steady sales on all 4 of those venues. The latter 3 are also free of listing fees.
Keep an eye on Carnaby for next year if they begin to advertise, otherwise forget about em.

It really depends on what types of merchandise you sell.
I have sold on ePier, Bidville, Haggle, Auctionweiser, and tBay. They all really average the same sales rate. Check them all out and try them for yourself.

I make more sales and more profit on eBay than all of the rest of the other sites combined.
I spend much more time looking, learning, listing and relisting on the other sites than on eBay.
Not a very good immediate monetary return for the time invested using other sites.
I consider it an investment in my future because I am unwilling to be completely dependent on eBay.
Several site are proving productive for a small number of sellers but I don't believe any one site has clearly become a strong candidate as the leading general merchandise site for a large number of users.
The venues mentioned in this thread and elsewhere in this Forum are all worth exploring.
I would encourage you to pick at least one site and post some listings.
Maybe next year there will be a clear choice but right now it's just a "shopping" process.
If you can afford the investment of time I really believe it's worthwhile but I don't want you to be disappointed if it's not immediately productive.

Currently I list on Ebay, Half.com, Yahoo, Carnaby, Bidville, BargainandHaggle, and Epier...
So far have had sales on the first 3, and bargainandhaggle (dont' know if they'll PAY yet, its fairly recent).
I might look into the SYI place.. can't hurt to find a new place to list.. the more places I can list the better chances of sales, I'd guess.

Sorry bout that! Didn't mean it that way at all!!
I'd be glad to repost the rest of the message if I could remember what I said.
Suffice it to say, I sell on both Ebay and sellyouritem.com with good results on both.
sellyouritem.com has free listings, low FVF fees, live support, free auto-relist, and is very user friendly...and you can "import" your auctions from other sites if they don't sell. I move items between the 2 sites and my sales have increased.
I'm tired, so that is the best I can do.

Joice was kind enough to email my original post, so here it is, with out the referral part:
"I sell on Ebay and sellyouritem.com. I am very please with the results on both sites. I've been on Ebay for almost 3 years now, sales have dropped off a bit but I'm still doing okay. I like having two sites to work with, if an item doesn't sell on one site I move it to the other. Works for me!!
Right now listing is free on sellyouritem.com and they have an auto-relist that is also free. You only pay a reasonable commission when an item sells. The site is very user friendly. Listing is a breeze and they have live support that responds right away. They also have a feature that allows you to import auctions from other sites.
My "at cost" items on sellyouritem.com have been selling like hot cakes! Many of the other sellers are offering items "at cost" as well, so it is a buyer's paradise right now. They also have a Club99 event that begins on the 3rd Saturday of every month.
Hope that helps. Pandandy"
Thanks Joice!!

I like it a lot. Being able to import the auction from another site was a real time-saving thing - and then I can save the auction for relists in the future. I like that too.
We'll see if I get any pageview/bids though - that's the real test.
Between Epier (1 sale), Bargainandhaggle (3 sales), Carnaby (0 sales), and Bidville (0 sales), I have a lot floating out there.. we'll see if any more come through and hey, the price is right. 8)

There are a GAZILLION auction sites out there, or so it seems:
http://www.kenzy.com/ebay/auctions.htm
I've tried several and so far only a few stand out from the crowd. If you want to try out an up-and-coming site, try Carnaby.com (yes I list there but no I don't own stock in the company). I invite anyone who is interested to try out various sites on the above link.
I still can't believe the strange names that some sites have chosen!

If you sell strange and/or vintage clothes books and other decorative items try popula.
Quite a high level of bidding for the stuff listed. But generic run of the mill stauff wont fly too well there.
Also if you are looking for odd books jewelery, clothes you will find the strangest stuff and will have to outbid someone to get it.

sellyouritem.com still remains at the top of my list! Many of my auctions are getting bids as soon as I get them listed....which is another nice feature, your listings show up in search as soon as you list them!
Club99 starts again this saturday with a "Fall Fling" theme. Should be fun!

How are the selling prices on Sellyouritem.com? Can you sell items closing $25+ with regularity on the site? Is the sell-thru improving and what's the approximate %?
Does Sellyouritem.com advertise?

eseller004,
Last stats I posted for sellyouritem showed a 2.39% bid rate. If you want to see what things are selling for, there is a link on their site map for completed auctions. You can sort the list in a variety of ways.
There has been some advertising done in various trad publications and opt in newsletters, according to their announcements board. There is also a more recent announcement that states invoices will go out the end of this month for any fees owed and the money will be used for additional advertising.
