Except the insertion fees and FVF - True, it is a very low total, 5 cents to insert, but if I am going to try a site that is just building traffic, why pay when other sites don't charge?

This is a catch-22 - Don't charge, and you get bigger. Charge, and people don't list.

Makes you wonder if there ever will be a real alternate to Ebay?

dont charge and grow bigger? grow bigger with junk auctions you mean, that is what yahoo is getting rid of and i hope all sites wake up to the real non auction sellers and they just disappear from the net. i much rather pay fees for a site that is not full of young kids playing games.
If you cant afford a small listing fee, then you dont belong in auctions.

I think the term junk auctions is pretty insulting. Ebay started as a site to sell used Pez dispensers, which most people throw in the trash. If that isn't the definition of junk, I don't know what is. Spam auctions, and auctions that just advertise a site or something like that is a concern, and should be prevented somehow.

I also don't have a problem with kids selling on-line. I had my own business when I was 12, doing mail order, running mail bid auctions, etc. I think the entrepreneurial spirit is a good thing to grow in kids. I don't think it is "playing games" - And before you say that you are taking a risk when dealing with kids, you are taking a risk when dealing with anyone who sells on-line!

hmmm, i do believe that you MUST be 18 to bid or offer in any online auction.
Many wild high price bids were placed on ebay last year by young 14 & 15 yr old
Pranksters

The rules probably do state you need to be 18 to open an account, but it is easy to do regardless (I think Yahoo verifies by asking your birthdate, not exactly hard to fake) - Plus, when my kids are old enough, I would open an account for them and monitor what they do (That is many years away though since the oldest is only 3 right now!)

I think more damage is done by adults over 18 who don't honor bids. I've had more problems with them than I have had with kids over the years!

Hello Everyone! Yes, I have found a new home. 321Gone has a great layout. I had some questions on a few things this weekend, but customer service got right back to me. It may take them some time to build traffic (it is pretty low right now) but I think this is the place for the future. As for the children comments, you need to be 18 to enter into a contract (which is placing a bid). Auction sites that don't verify their members are the ones to stay away from. Some people get pissed when a site asks for a credit card, but what they don't realize is that by doing this, the site is detering scams and frauds. Yes kids may be more responsible than some adults I know, but I would not feel comfortable with a site that does not verify. Comments anyone?!?

basically good safety common sense is a plus
for any sites users.

What exactly do you call a Junk Auction.
What you call Junk may be a treasure to someone else.
Just because you dont sell a high dollar product does not make it junk.
Remember E-Bay started as a place to sell Pez Dispensers so go figure.
Thanks
God Bless

Nascar,

I was talking about the auctions you see that say "Send me a dollar, and I will tell you how to get rich from home." That kind of stuff. I didn't mean inexpensive items. Sorry for the confusion.

voodoo, you are very right. They do not allow those send me money stuff envelopes rip off auctions to be listed, its about time. Those types should be gone from any site.

Made another sale on 321Gone. Anyone else been there to check it out? We sort of got off track on this thread, so I thought I would ask again. I don't understand why this site is not bigger with more traffic. Does anyone have an answer?

voodoodaddy....I think 321Gone's layout is superb and it seems to be more user-friendly than "you know who", however, relying on word-of-mouth could lead to its demise. How can they possibly hope to be a true competitor for the sellers' business without a noticeable advertising campaign?

As you are probably aware, any eBay seller who sends a mass mailing regarding their 321Gone selling activity to former eBay buyers risks losing his/her registration...and there goes all feedback earned since starting up on eBay. eBay has made it very clear that they will act accordingly in response to any complaint from their users regarding such (what they call) "spam" mailings. What's a seller supposed to do?

By the way, eBay sellers who previously purchased Blackthorne Auction Assistant software for listing eBay auctions just got hit with a surprise announcement today that there has been a significant change in the software and there will be a monthly fee for using the software.....the software they purchased with free lifetime upgrades will be non-existent! I sense there will be many sellers looking for another venue as they've stuck with eBay, not only for the traffic, but because their listing software works with eBay. Perhaps you'll see some of the aforementioned sellers signing up with 321Gone.

Unless a media blitz is launched by 321Gone, their growth will be severely hampered.

Voodoodaddy
I went to 321Gone today after reading your post, and it looks like a great place......feature rich....lots of options!
I signed up, and when they asked for a referral I typed in your ID.

I haven't posted anything over there yet, but will soon. They have so many options there! People should be flocking there soon.
The listing fee and FVF doesn't bother me. If they do some aggressive marketing, they should be able to attract members.
Thanks for telling us about it.

Thanks for putting me down as a refferal! I just love this site. I saw some questions on their message board about the Blackthorne Auction Assistant fees. Some other members had questions and 321Gone said they are coming out with a bulk uploader that is free to use and supposedly in a couple of different formats. They also said something about a marketing campaign starting sometime next week. The FVF and insertion fees bothered me at first, but then I applied to become a Super Seller (which is thier high volume sellers i guess). Anyway, I don't have to pay insertion fees anymore. I hope this marketing campaign works, because I like it there.

I would like to hear from those who are listing on 321Gone. Has anyone tried their new bulk lister? Are the bugs out of it yet?

They have a nice selection of Categories, but many of them have (0) listings. Makes me want to go in and fill them up!

I am just inquisitive. What do you mean by "junk auctions"? I was selling guaranteed used vhs videos. Buying at $3.50 and selling at 4.99. Didn't sell many and don't know why. anyway I had to leave because of the fees. Some of the videos would be relisted for 6 months before they sold. I do not think a video that has been viewed one time is JUNK.

you can call vhs videos auctions, but in the best sense they really belong on fixed price sites or classifieds.

If you look at all the top auction sites they all have an A rate look, very professional. 321 looks B rate, but the layout is alright. If you think it doesn't matter, most people make up their mind about a site in under 40 seconds.

There's nothing about this site that distinguishes itself from the dozens of others. The most irritating thing about these empty sites is when each subcategory says (1), (0), (1), (3). Just combine them until there's at least 25 in each!

Well I guess I am one of those weird-o's, I am not impressed or unimpressed by the style of a site - the only thing I am looking for is sales - the site itself can be "clean" or "cluttered," just bring in the buyers!

Basically, the only thing that will turn me off of a site is a site where I can't simply drop in my pre-done, formatted auction. The only site I know which has ever caused me any problem like this is Amazon with its limited description area. Of course, Amazon has now sunk in its own river of apathy, so it isn't an issue.

I'm going to check out 321 Gone - I don't mind a minimal listing fee if there are buyers - we will see.
