No listing fees yet (except there are fees for bolding, highighting and featured listings). FVF is a reasonable 3% IMO with a minimum 50 cent charge.

Plus, one of the best and simplest Web names out there --- SELL.COM.

Anyone try it yet? I haven't. Just poked around. Looks to be a nicely designed site. Hope they advertise!

hhmm..........
Interesting. I would guess then that minimum bids on all items would be around $17.00 to compensate for the minimum 50 cent FVF charge.

How do you get the $17.00 figure? I come up with a $10.00 figure when considering that most auctions sites charge 5%. Taking into consideration no listing fees it would bring the figure even lower. I have not even looked at the site, just going by figures. Am I wrong?

$10 X 3% = 30 cents
$17 X 3% = 51 cents

Edited to add:

Opals4u, I see where you are coming from. $10 @ 3% = 30 cents. Then if you tack on the 30 cents ebay would charge, then yes, $10 is the nominal starting bid, all things being equal.

Edited to add again:

Most sites charge 5% on the first $25 or so and then reduce the percentage on amounts over $25

It seems like the same kind of buying and selling format as Bargin&Haggle where you can negotiate the price.

I think sell.com is using the software that B&H does.I just looked at the Home page setup. Interesting to see what visual changes can be made to identical software packaging and still have 2 distinctive looks and sites.

I may be wrong- but it still looks the same to me. I can't remember where you can look on a page properties breakdown to see. Does anyone know how? What do you think?

No way Sell.com uses BargainandHaggle software! BargainandHaggle is 100 times more visually appealing and feature rich than Sell.com IMHO. That's not to say Sell.com hasn't made a nice first effort. I've never seen another auction site laid out in a more visually appealing manner than BargainandHaggle.

Sell.com does look professional though! It doesn't appear to have been thrown together overnight, and if somehow it was, I WANT THAT SOFTWARE!!! It has a kinda CDNow look and feel to it (another nicely designed site) the way the images appear.

BargainandHaggle is designed using Microsoft's ASP architecture whereas Sell.com seems to be standard HTML with a ton of JavaScript calls. [If they do use ASP it's hidden well.] So Sell.com may be more browser friendly than BargainandHaggle (can Netscape users view BargainandHaggle?).

Another advantage Sell.com has over BargainandHaggle is a more memorable URL! Who the heck can forget Sell.com? I bet they could sell that URL for hundreds of thousands, if not millions, if they wanted! It has to be one of the best names on the Web! They say URLs should be 7 characters or less to be easily remembered, but BargainandHaggle violates that rule with 16.
