I went through and added up the numbers on various sites. This is what I found:

1: eBay -- 5,545,175
2: BidBay -- 908,572*
3: Yahoo! -- 865,572
4: LowestBids -- 388,035
5: BidVille -- 188,321
6: Pootah -- 50,000**
7: SnapRat -- 7,161

* = Not including $1 or less or BidBay Buck items. With them, they are over 1,000,000 items.

** = Doesn't have numbers next to categories, so this is taken from DT Magazine.

You miscounted. eBay and Yahoo count listings, whereas jokers like bidbay count items. You could add a single listing to bidbay with a million paperclips available, and you'd double their stats

Hmmmm.... that kind of makes sense, then. I don't know. DT Magazine makes the same mistake, then.......

I have been watching BidBay. Looks promising.

Anyone have a better feel how BB is doing and what their future (may) be?

Wabmaster...directly from ebay's home pagever 5 million items for sale! Not listings?????

sgtmike, I think it has potential. According to top9.com/pcdataonline, they are number 2...second to ebay.

http://top9.com/auctions_shopping/auctions/general_auctions.html

AW is number 1 in the auction service category.

I hope this helps.

fullof...

eBay tends to use "items", "auctions", and "listings" interchangeably. They don't need to pump up their stats by adding up all of the dutch auction "items".

It's easy to demostrate the bidbay deception. Go into the coins/general category on both sites, for example. BidBay has 9000+ "items", but they all fit on just a few pages! eBay only has 2000+ in the same category, but it takes 40+ pages to list them all.

Amazing, hmmmm?

I'd guess that bidbay has about 1000 listings, but we'll never know unless somebody counts them or bidbay decides to clean up their deceptive stats.

wabmaster....it will NEVER happen....and most of the diehards there will deny BB does it any different from ebay, but as you've pointed out (and I have also many times) there is NO comparison site to site if your looking for a certain item.BB just frustrates me when I'm searching,go to a cat. with 100 items showing....only to find there are really none.

DT Magazine is at dtmagzine.com. There's a link to their auction page from there.

Ebay is bloated on numbers. Quite a few people take advantage of the 1 item 2 category feature. I do on quite a few of my items.

So the ppeople counting mst be looking at the numbers next to the categories.
