First Off, let me wheel out the old 'Welcome Gate' and spray some WD40 on the hinges to reduce the annoying squeaking that it has been know to do.
I like the 'Want Ad' or classified ads on the internet idea. I think one of the best places to buy and sell big items locally is through Yahoo Classifieds ( free also ).
Your BuyBelowCost site is set up very much like an onlne auction. One drawback I saw right away though is a lack of any kind of a feedback system for judging site users, especially the sellers. Internet buying is full of blind faith but at least a feedback system helps gauge the sellers a bit.
Good luck

Is it my imagination or is the SPAM getting worse here at AW?

It's not Spam on this board because this board is for discussions of all online auction or similar matters. This is the perfect forum for newcomers.
Besides, I've got that damn 'Welcome Gate' all oiled up and it's not going to waste.

Son-Of-A-Gun Bids that is a refreshing attitude. I think site owners should be allowed to post maybe once a month or once every other month in these message bases to let folks know they are either just getting started or that they are still around. On the other hand should the posting become annoying in frequency then I think YourDesign would be justifed in displaying the old Spam can. Ummm that is after I have eaten the contents that is.

bidsbids:
It IS SPAM when the site representative comes and promotes the site on the message boards.
It is not like a regular joe came in and said, "Hey what do you think of BuyBelowCost.com?". That would be the purpose of Other Online Auctions. Now just because AW did away with moderators doesn't mean their User Agreement was tossed out the window also.

The sites could have anybody come to AW and say they are a regular user and just discovered the new site.
When the sheriffs left town any law and order went with them. This place is now like a weird Stephen King novel.

I'm not real clear on why a site owner such as myself posting an invitation to check out Romahawk Auctions should be considerd spam (what ever that really is) as long as it is not over done but Joe Blows plug is OK. It just doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Would this post be considered spam because I slipped in the name of the site? I think not but there it is as big as life, a plug for Romahawk in the context of a response from the site owner.. Even if the moderators were still here I believe they would be hard pressed to find fault with this response. What-Cha think????

It is perfectly acceptable to me, for a site owner to come to this board and tell us about their site. How else would we know?
Welcome and Thank you for telling us about your site.

Romahawk,
I agrre that an occasinal message from a site rep or owner would not be outside the bounds of good taste, (if there is such a thing nowadays?).
I also believe I saw an explanation by a moderator here at one time way back when that went something along the lines of, "Auctionwatch charges a fee to advertise, if the sites want to advertise they are welcome to contact our sales department and inquire to our fees." (or something like that)
I don't believe it was ever an ethical issue.

Now, everyone is saying "It's okay." But watch when tons of SPAM starts flooding in because it's "acceptable" to promote your site here, even though it's against AW User Agreement. People will start complaining that this is nothing but a SPAM board.
When a site owner goes around "inviting" and "promoting" (do that little Dr. Evil quote) on various message boards, folks, that is SPAMming the boards. It has been for years, and most people don't like it.
Oh, and did I mention it's against AW's User Agreement?

This board is a ghost town with a signpost that says "Danger: You're Entering The Twilight Zone". ( You can almost hear Rod Serling speaking )
AW put it on auto-pilot and an honor system.
So I say ... Bring on your promotions but keep within reason.

Now what I'd really like to know is how many of you folks have never heard of BuyBelowCost? I've had them listed in my auctions directory for months now!
I'm not going to get into the fray over spam or not, though. I use these boards a lot for resource materials.

Bidsbids is now the moderator for AW. Wonderful!
Wallypog, we never heard of BuyBelowcost.com because their advertising consists of spamming message boards. They never got around to AW until now.

If I was the AW Moderator, YourDesigns would have been suspended long ago. Not quite up to Cuff's league but bad enough to get an easy boot.
