Hello AuctionWatch members. I just started an auction website specifically tailored to the fishing industry. You can find it at tackleauctions.com/auction I will have tackleauctions.com forwarded to that address next week. It is still a work in progress. Since AuctionWatch members are well versed with online auctions, I would appreciate any feedback/comments/ideas that you have. Thank you very much!

Sincerely,

Jason Levine

I like the idea of a fishing tackle online auction site, any niche site is a good thing. Take away a piece of Meg's pie ( she looks like she could skip a meal or two anyway ).
When you have successfully launched I'll wheel out the squeaky 'Welcome Gate'.

Thank you for all of your replies. I am very excited to start my site. As online auction users, how would you prefer to pay auction fees (credit card, check, PayPal, etc.) I want to know what is going on in the minds of online auction user on AuctionWatch so that my site can be appealing to bidders and sellers alike. Thank you for your continued feedback.

Sincerely,

Jason Levine

Most auction sellers would be VERY reluctant give their credit card numbers to a fairly unknown site owner. I do think a PayPal option would be great and money orders or personal checks would be good options as well.

Thank you for your input. I realize that members will probably be hesitant to give credit card numbers to a new site. As a result I will implement PayPal and accept checks. Any other ideas? I don't want to waste my time and money setting up a merchant account to accept credit cards if the sellers don't want to give me cc numbers.

Sincerely,

Jason Levine

AuctionWatch Member,

In your opinion, what is the best way to promote a niche site (such as TackleAuctions.com)?

Search engines, auction search engines, etc.....

Thank you!

Sincerely,

Jason Levine

I would think Fishing magazines would be the best place to advertise, but that is going to take some money.

I have found that people that fish are very reluctant to part with any money on their hobby. That's part of the beauty of fishing, you get your gear and except for live bait and an annual fishing license you're set for life.

Does that explain the fishing sections of even say... Wal-Mart? If people didn't spend money on fishing lures and such, then why does the largest retailer in the USA have a nice section devoted to such in just about every single store?

Hmmm.

Bidsbids, people like me do that, LOL. Not everyone. Shoot, I know people who spend tons of money on fishing. My ex-bro-in-law was one of them. He went fishing nearly every weekend out of the year and spent a ton of money at it. I know others with bass boats, all kinds of fancy gear and such. I used to go fishing with my uncle and it wasn't anything for him to rig up the whole group at anywhere from $20-$40 per person per trip just on tackle alone. That didn't include all the fishing poles and reels he had in his collection.

I agree, fishing magazines would be a great place to advertise. Whenever I've subscribed to special interest magazines I've always read the classified ads and found some great businesses in the process.

I think you will do well, maybe try advertising in wallypogs newsletter Hi wally & in theauctionguild.com newsletter that could get you sellers & bidders which you need both right now..maybe exchange links with some fishing sites on the net..ones that do the big trips to alaska & like that..& yes paypal is a good idea good luck ps GREAT LOOKING SITE..nice..a suggestion PUT FREE BASIC LISTING FEES in huge letters on home page..not just on the small link..be sure you mention that in any advertising..also tell for how long? i am now at sellyouritem they have promised free basic at least through 2002..people will want to know..
