When the mega book seller got thrown off BV without warning a few weeks ago the BV number of total listings was at 902,000+. That number now stands at 923,000+.
Are the Half sellers that will lose their sportscards listings there soon coming over already or are these the resident card sellers increasing their listings? BV must have passed the 80% mark in percentage of sports related items already.
Recently Topps introduced e Topps cards or electronic cards that never leave the Topps servers or ever see a printing press. This year the Magic The Gathering cards did the same thing within their online version of the cards and website gaming. I believe that this is just the beginning of this shift from actual to electronic cards.
I wonder if BV and other auction venues will adapt to the change? Maybe that is part of the reason that Half has decided to drop sportscards? A good move from a BV might be to promote those electronic card listings on their site as many auction venues seem to be wishing the e card craze will simply fade away. There's no way those new cards will fade away and a huge swing in the popularity of the new fangle cards could spell trouble for the older pasteboard cards and their auctions.

Tooltimes the bidville numbers are never stable. I have seen drops and increases of over 10,000 in one day. Most likely a sellers items end, and are mass relisted. Sports cards are not doing well on bidville, and I see half.com eliminating them a move in the right direction. I have no doubt that bidville will pick up many cards, and bidville has been over 80% for quite a while. As dimview reported there are sports cards in many non-sport categories at bidville.

I agree there are big swings in the BV listing numbers and those swings are probably big card sellers relisting cards but the overall trend is a steady rise in the sportscards at BV. The big card sellers can avoid having a webpage or store and use the BV servers as their homebase at a reasonable cost instead.
There seems to be a minor palace revolt at BV because the search engine can now only display 2,000 auctions at a shot now. I wonder if the new front page sportscard search engine somehow affected the regular search engine's maximum display amount?
