Isn't this how Mr. Palandro and Co. started the demise of Carnaby?
First they acquired Grab a Bargain, then entered a letter of intent with Zenith Technologies.
The next thing you knew, the plug was pulled and everything vanished.

I think the cliched, yet accurate, phrase you are looking for is "Their reach exceeds their grasp."
Or maybe their "Eyes are bigger than their stomachs."
Or even "One in the hand, two in the bush."
The days of dot-coms gobbling each other up in a rush to "Get big quick" is over. These guys are going to go out with a whimper.
They need to build ONE site to success before worring about becoming a conglomerate. This all sounds like somebody's ego trip.

When the only news stories coming out of Bidville are either press releases or something written in auctionbytes then they aren't much of a news item.

Too funny!
It's been reported elsewhere that 321play and Buy Sell Connect Inc (which are the same company) are ebay sellers.
That's really going to help Bidville out - by taking away ebay's customers one by one!

I totally agree with toollady and the similar patterns at Carnaby and now BV.
I 'googled' both 321play and Buy Sell Connect Inc and got almost zero information.
The BV stock is now down to $3.18 from it's $7.50 peak.

In a little defense of BV I was reading some mail in my Yahoo Mail account and there was this BV banner ad

Bidville has been advertising all OVER yahoo sites. Everytime I open a Yahoo page, there's a Bidville advertisement; they're putting a lot of money into visibility.

The problem is that Yahoo is not near as popular as Google for searching. I only use Yahoo mail as a backup to my hotmail account. Even with 6 megs of storage I must go to Yahoo mail once a week to dump the junk mail. And of course almost everyone instantly ignores almost all banner ads.

BV is indded advertising as promised. Now we will see if that advertising makes any difference in the site.

So far no upward movement in the stats. Advertising costs really add up, so they better see an upswing soon.

The only stats that counts is the amount of non-sports cards listed and their sell through rate.

Now we get to finally see if any substantial advertising would have any effect on a smaller-than-ebay site such as BV. I still maintain that it is a total waste of Capital Venture funding to try to get some vistitors to the site.

stonecold, I agree, but did you know there are thousands of cards listed in all the other "non-sport" categories? I would estimate without the consignment sellers about 200,000 non sport items.
Ace, it is a waste of money. New bidders will scoff at the wasteland of listings.

I think it was JB that was collecting the various BV banner ads that are now appearing around the Net ( including here at Vendio ).
Here's one that I caught while reading my Yahoo Mail ( free mail but you gotta share half the page with a banner ad )
http://us.a1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/a/bi/bidville/monster2.gif
I'm very glad that BV is indeed spending a considerable sum of money on advertising their site. Now we can all see if it makes any difference at all. ( I'm still wagering that it will not make any difference whatsoever )
p/s Tom/Ralph ... the didderence is the same didderence between bank and band in Deco Watch auction post .. BTW .. congrats on the opening bid ... watches are a very tough sell on ebay

OTOH: those "didderences" are painful beyond imagining!

CNBC: "Unless the economy adds at least 2.3 million jobs by the end of the year, Bush will go down as the first president since Hoover to preside over a four-year term in which total employment fell."

We be hoping the watch does well -- tons of HITS & 6 WATCHERS! Should be a fun closing 5 min tomorrow
The real surprise has been the BAKELITE DRESSER BOX with 7 bids over $50! Who'ed a guesses it? Well, Ralphie did clue me in before hand, but I rarely listen -- afterall, he IS a DOG!

Sorta like the old Mr. Ed TV show or maybe the 1975 Don Johnson sci-fi movie " A Boy and His Dog ". Those were fairly regular guys that could hear their pets.
Bakelite seems very collectible. The 55 Chevy hood ornament is doing well as hood ornaments can be a bear on ebay.
Are all of the scales drop ship items? Drop ship scares me as a seller somewhat because I don't actually have the item I'm selling.

What was his name?? "Butch?" I loved that flick -- it had Jason Robards,Jr, one of my all-time favorite actors! One of my top ten flicks is "A Thousand Clowns," with him & Barry Gordon...watch it & laugh yerself sick
Drop-shipping CAN be a real disaster. I tried 3 of our VD advertisers & TWO of them almost put me out of biz
The third was wonderful, but they sell the same kaka-poopoo as everybody else, so it was a waste of the $99 "lifetime" membership fee -- yeah, I shoulda known better
My present thingy is just a sideline & it has worked 100% perfectly for me for a year, so me-N-Ralphie are happy as clams in s....
I stumbled upon it by accident -- very little work involved & it pays most of my feeBay bills for listing, packing, postage, etc.
I've maintained a constant STR for a year, so it should stay stable -- won't increase, but, thankfully, won't go down.
VERY competive niche with the major players chewing on each others' jugulars like ya wouldn't believe!
Ralphie was gonna call it a dog-eat- ...

The dog's name was Blood. Like all the other men they were always looking for food and women.
Glad to see you found a good source for those scales.
You two ( Ralphie/Blood and you ) are very good at the thrift shops. The local thrift stores here are so picked over that you couldn't find a deal if your life depended on it. I think most worthy items are screened over by outsiders a few times before they ever hit the floor.

I see Cuff is calling Dim 'Ace' on the Moo. What a severe case of paranoia it is that has control over that lady. Dim and I have many similar views, especially about BV, but that's about it. Now BlairWitch lives near Dim and they could be the same person. Of course Cuff has made note of that physical connection before and that must be her backup paranoia in case something ever happens to the Dim/Ace one.

I see some of the threads over at the pasture were locked. Its like school with a teacher giving "time-outs" lol. Since the boards over there are painfully slow, they should just fight it out and be done with it. Maybe they could pump some life back into the boards
Ace, we have no clue where Dimview lives, so I dont know how she could think we are the same. Cuff and I had some issues in the past, but she is looking out for her interests, and I am sure she is a nice lady in person.
