Had some items that were just too large or heavy for regular auction sales, so I thought that I would try putting them up on Craigslist.
It was easy enough to sign up, as well as post the listings, and I was pleased that within hours of posting, I got responses.
I wrote back to those that had contacted me, and was encouraged that their emails had statements in it like; SOLD, if it not already gone I'll take it, etc.
But now the problem. I write back, giving contact info, and never hear back from these individuals. There is no way to pull contact info, their names in the emails have no phone listings, they just dissapear; and now I figure that it is all just a game, some kind of sick sport to build up peoples hopes that they have sold sometime and then run off.

More and more of my sales come from CL. A lot of time our tenants move out and leave behind big items: beds, luggage, coffeemakers, etc. and I use CL because like you the items are too big to ship.
Here's what I do: Put in your ad the following words - "Serious inquiries please reply with phone# (because of spam/scam)." The people who are serious will email you with their phone#.
If they replay w/o the phone# I ask them to send me their phone# and I will call them back.
I sold two items this weekend.
Luggage & memory stick.
