I finally found a couple of items on BidVille this morning that I would like to have. When I "placed" my bid on the 2nd item, the damn site is so S-L-O-W that my browser timed out and returned an error message.

Don't know if my bid made it through or not

These guys are going to have to clean up their act if 300,000 listings grinds their site to a halt ...

RB,
Geez, it seems all my replies are to you! The servers are slow and I think they have been having major growing pains. I am sure they had no idea what a windfall they would receive from Yahoo's announcement! The BidVille site today says it is upgrading their servers today so hopefully, things will be better. You can see if your bid went thru by going to BidVille, click Track (not sure on that name) and then you will have some choices to click onto.
Thank you for bidding on BidVille!

Thanks deichen. My bid did go through. I emailed the seller and she advised me of this!

BidVille's server problems remind me of eBay's problems. I hope BidVille upgrades theirs to a Cadillac version right off the bat instead of doing it on the cheap in little steps like eBay ... otherwise their constant down times for upgrades will cause bad feelings amongst people (like me) who are trying to give it a chance, and we'll go somewhere else.

In BidVille's short history, they have had several downtimes. This, coupled with the fact that they did not anticipate the surge of listings as a result of Yahoooooo's mistake makes me wonder about their CEO's too.

RB,

Your constant complaints about Bidville are tiring. If you want to be viewed as an objective, and thus useful opinion, you have to be a bit more "honest". As of now, I just glance over your messages.

RB,

Reading the announcement at the top of every page would also help.

Notice...We are upgrading our image servers today. You may notice intermittent difficulty viewing some of your pictures and periods of slower service.

Hey Gol...oops I mean Bidville is at least not waiting to upgrade their servers, that's a good first step.

I don't think that Bidville had any way to anticipate the Yahoo debacle, and I think that that is primarily responsible for their enormous surge of growth in the past month or so.

Hopefully they will be able to deal with it, but it's just these kinds of "positive problems" that have caused many e-commerce sites to go out of business.

and what new site would that be? or Rather you think that I am with? I'm a member of a number of sites, not necessarily an active user.

Ouch! But, you're 100% correct.

I hereby apologize to the group for being so negative. I guess I am a bit soured due to the Gold's failure, the PayPal change of policy, Yahooo's blunder, and the fact that eBay won't let me buy there anymore. I should not be taking this out on BidVille or it's supporters.

On the plus side, I have placed 2 bids for items on BidVille. Maybe if I win, I can boost my sarcastic total of sales

Good luck!

Rob

RB: glad to read this since a few times I've tried to compose replies to you about your posts and never found the right words. Then I read that you are primarily a BUYER which changed my perception of your posts a little bit.

But yes, I would enjoy more optimism and "can do" spirit around here in general, esp. since I just quit my long-time real-life job out of terminal disgust over what happened there, and I am discouraged by the doom and gloom economic news.

I like hearing when things WORK, too.

Bidville will have growing pains. But are at least trying to improve. I like talking to real people in customer service I also like a site that will take what I Say and respond Bidville does that. There are some things about bidville that need to be improved and I believe they will. I am listing there and will list more because I feel this site with the way they handle people will bring in the bid's.

I see the growing pains for BidVille too. I did have a few good customers check out BidVille. One has now purchase 46 items from 12 different sellers. She loves the site and has recommended to her local collecting club.

Keziak: I do not know what you deal in but hoping its good antiques and collectibles. If so you should be all right in a recession. I have been selling since 1971 a junior in high school. I have seen good and bad years and weathered it all. Good high quality items always do well in a recession especially higher priced and hard to find things (500.00 +). In the past recessions low end garage sale stuff dies and falls in price.
Traditionally the Antiques market has been strong in a recession and weak in the boom years.
