I sure hope you are reading this Mark but BidBay has lifted the CG's from your site and are now using them on their own just replacing Auction Watch with BidBay.Com.

Can BidBay not afford their own lawyers to work this stuff out for them?

Does the CEO of BidBay and/or it's staff not have an original idea in his head?

Does the CEO of BidBay and/or it's staff not have any ethics?

My opinions to all of these questions is a resounding NO!

So come out all ye koolaid drinkers and defend yet another integrity issue.

We still haven't heard his statemtn regarding the stealing of the templates.

AG2, normally I agree with you about Bidbay's unscrupilious activities, but on this one I don't see it as an exact cut-and-paste operation.

You are comparing:

http://www.auctionwatch.com/company/terms.html

and

http://www2.bidbay.com/chat/chatpolicies.cfm

right?

I can't see any real exacting similarities in this case, or am I looking at the wrong CG's?

OOPS! Never mind, AG2. I found it. I just wasn't looking far enough down.

Clearly not, but apparently they can't even afford a minimum-wage hack to reword the material they are stealing.

Does the CEO of BidBay and/or it's staff not have an original idea in his head?

Sadly, they actually do, which makes it more astounding that they actually stoop to these levels.

Does the CEO of BidBay and/or it's staff not have any ethics?

Actions speak louder than words.

The CGs are the AW Community Guidelines - part of the User Agreement and terms of the site you agreed to abide by when you registered just minutes ago.

bidbay is the biggest rippoff site on earth.... It is amazing that a company can claim to go public when it is clear that they have stolen the very software the site is based on.... The software is written by a company called Beyondsolutions, yet bidbay has actually had the nerve to try and sell it as there own. This is a perfect example of the ethics of this company. The amazing thing is they actually advertised the software as thier own while the BEYOND SOLUTIONS COPY RIGHT WAS STILL IN THE SOURCE CODE... word of warning to anybody looking at this company - Would you invest in a company that buys software and then tries to claim that it is thier product..... Bidbay forgot to reveal this in thier SEC documents.... very misleading..... this was taken directly from Yahoo news....

Company Press Release
BSI Supplies Auction Engine for eBay Rival BidBay
BUENA PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 3, 2000--Beyond Solutions Inc. Friday announced that it is supplying the backend auction engine for eBay rival BidBay Inc.
BSI's Visual Auction has established itself as one of the world's leading auction software packages.

Interesting year2001 it wouldn't surprise me in the least bit.

I am still a current member of that site and developed some friendships along the way. But I am truly saddened to say that I have completely lost respect for a number of people over there.

I honestly don't care what they think of me. But for them to constantly defend BidBay and some of the extremely embarassing things that have come to light about the site shows me their "true colors."

I don't want to have anything to do with sellers who think it's okay and actively defend a company that outright steals another companies intellectual property. And I am not just referring to the CG's. They still have not adequately explained what the deal was with them using AW's auction templates.

Yeah they made some claim about using different code, but the proof is in the pudding with AW's logo still on the thumbnail versions at BidBay's website (which of course have since been removed.)

They all seem to pretend none of this is hurting their site, even claiming that what I post here is just giving them more advertisement and new members....LOL.

Well if that is true then why does the web site have to subsidise it's sellers by buying from them. The actual words were "the board of directors have voted to help the sellers by bidding on their items."

But the sellers there have no shame at all clamoring and responding with arms extended looking for yet another hand out.

The only help I want or expect from an auction site is in the form of real buyers. Not handouts.

I think what we have here is the equivalent of Pee Wee Herman piloting the Space Shuttle. Out of his element and likely to grab on to the first thing that remotely looks like a joystick.

As a former BBS sysop from the days when the Internet was still called Arpanet, it was rather common to 'borrow' the basics like layouts and CG's and edit to taste. No big deal, and nobody made a fuss when it happened. Of course, if they were too egregious in their plagiarism they were made the laughing stock of the local community.
No threats of calling the cops for copyright violations!

What I see here is the simple case of the BB management totally lacking a clue. They tell their kids, or cousins, or whoever constitutes their technical 'staff' to get some basic tasks accomplished. The tech staff is far, far too busy trying to figure out the site software manual in their time between classes and homework, and so take 'shortcuts'. They 'borrow' other sites' basics like templates, CG's and even basic setup and navigation styles. All seems well until they become scrutinized for other bizarre antics. I certainly do not regard GT and Co. as thieves. I do see them as naive and trying anything and everything to keep the rubber ducky afloat until the Day of The Blessed IPO. Whether they will pull the plug the day later is the true measure of their character.

Oh yes, one more thing.

AW should in a sense be flattered that it its their site that is regarded as the 'ideal' to be emulated. Or copied. Depending on ones viewpoint.

I wouldn't be too harsh on them with this matter. They are having a tough enough time getting the site software working and designing new smiley faces. And besides, Mid-Terms are around the corner....

This is true. I joined last week after reading, woops, seeing a couple hundred posts from you about this subject.

Wow, that is 3 times this week. Don't worry I am well/Sick enough to go back to work now.

Coolvette in regards to BidBay stealing the templates and CG's from AW what is there to know?

The only thing I see is dishonesty time and time again.

So next time the BidBay community has another super secret koolaid kids meeting the one with the super secret koolaid kids handshake where the CEO whispers all the super secret things to the koolaid kids that he won't announce publicly on his message board that will give the koolaid kids super secret knowledge about the future of BidBay please come back and don't tell us.

NOW THAT WAS FUNNY!
I have seen enough just from this Auction Watch sight to know I will stay with EBAY. It is apparent that Bidbay seems to be an ebay wannabe and I never was much for generics! I am just wondering if they will head back to Greece or whevever they are from after they get this IPO thing over with. and then all those bidbay bucks won't even buy koolaide.

Coolvette said "perhaps they know something you don't".

That's entirely possible. However, I would honestly like to know what incentives, promises, etc. would entice people to overlook and even defend this ever-increasing level of deceit, dishonesty and treachery.

I don't think I could do so even if they offered me a real $1,000,000 (no one has ever offered, so I've never had to deal with that dilemna).

Has Bidbay promised to become an upstanding, honest site at some point in the future with rewards for all those loyal to them through building a foundation built on lies? I really would like to know.

Aww, AG2 you were invited to that meeting and nothing was secret about it. They came out and posted what was said/done/etc. You didn't wanna go. So why bring it up?

Now you want to talk secret meetings? Try the voices people over at the other place. They can't discuss anything.

Jada, I get nothing from them, just trying to sell a few items left over from last year. I can't see paying higher fees for stuff I've had up there before. Now when my new stuff comes in.. they go where the high $$ are.

mtnmama,

that's not the meeting I'm referring too...LOL

Anyway. I'm glad I didn't go to the meeting you are referring to because I've seen how at least one of those who visited has seemed to tone down their "negative" messages and seem to be in BidBay's pocket.

This is an old thread. We have a new policy at AW not to discuss BidBay on AW's message boards. Therefore this thread has been locked.
The thread to not allow discussion can be found at:
