I use Auction Watch on a regular basis to launch auctions on ebay. Since AW has one of the best customer service departments around, I thought perhaps this would be the best place to learn about image hosting...This week for the first time I listed some auctions on Excite Auctions (based primarily on what I read in the News & Information section of AW). Since photos can be uploaded directly to Excite when the listing is created, that is what I did instead of launching them through AW as I always do for my auctions on ebay. Now I find that none of my pictures are showing up in my listings on Excite. Since I am rather new with computers and don't really understand everything yet, what I am wondering is...had I launched the pictures from AW would they be appearing in my listings even though Excite is having some kind of problem with their images? Or would the pictures still be missing? If I re-attach the pictures from AW now, will they show up in my listings? I'm not sure how image hosting works, and I'm not sure where the problem lies when a picture stops appearing in a listing. If you can explain a little about this for me and tell me whether or not I should always launch the pictures through an image host, such as Auction Watch, or whether it wouldn't make a difference, it would be a big help.
I hope this is the correct place to ask a quetion like this.
By the way, I was very surprised to find that I had a bid on one item that I listed on Excite. But without a photo it is highly unlikely additional bids will be placed. It is unfortunate because, although I like ebay, I feel they are a monopoly and I want to branch out and support other auction sites.

I listed a couple things on Lycos last night, and the photo upload wasn't working right. Lycos and Excite are part of the same Fairmarket Network Auction (except, unlike the others, you won't pay any listing or FVFs if you list through Lycos). One of the two had the photo correctly today, and the other listing had DISAPPEARED COMPLETELY from the category pages (though it still showed on my list as an open auction).
On Lycos Auction, you can "attach" (add an uploaded image) or change a photo on your auction after you've listed it, and only an "uploaded" image will show up as a thumbnail on the category pages. I don't remember if you can change the photo after you have a bid, but I think you can "edit" the listing and ADD an image (or an image LINK if it's hosted elsewhere).
Your photos are more likely to show up if you upload them DIRECTLY to the Auction site rather than going through AW. Since Excite's image software has the problem, it won't do any good to launch them again from AW---you'll just have to wait until Excite has it fixed to see if your photos show up.
