Okay this is beyond ridiculous now.
361,270 in the under $1.00 category.
667,511 in the BidBay Buck category.
Now once again this is not taking into consideration the number of recipe auctions in other categories.
Now mind you don't speak out on these numbers at the BidBay board because the good Lord knows you will be flamed, called a troll, asked to leave by the same members who call their little community a "family."
If the community were a true family they would understand that sometimes families have to discuss issues that they would rather avoid.
This is just one once again out of many.
Just a note. I will be visiting the BidBay HQ next week. This does not mean I've been "bought out," accepted a "bribe" etc.
I will however be bringing the integrity issues we've discussed here and elsewhere right to their doorstep.
I have accepted the "gauntlet" thrown down at my feet and will not shy away from it.
If you would like for me to address certain issues feel free to email them to me at [email protected]

There's a thread going on there about this very issue...I can't believe how some people are proud of the fact that BidBay has over a million recipes on the site...yet, there are others with common sense that believe Bidbay will never be perceived as a serious auction site until they do something about it...and it's also unbelieve how Bidbay can keep on bragging to the online community that they have 2 million items for sale, second only to eBay...WHAT A JOKE!!!!!!!!

I'm totally in agreement, AG2! I was wondering what happened to you as I hadn't seen your posts anywhere. I rarely post to any board, but last night I did regarding this very subject, and was told not to post to that party's thread! Shortly thereafter the thread was locked.
I just have a feeling that they do not want to clean up the site.
Good luck next week, and let us know what happens.

Too Funny!
How many ways can you make Kool-aid? The only ways I can think of is with or without sugar!
BIDBAY IS A JOKE
Hard to believe that there are over one million recipes that were handed down from generation to generation. Gee, makes one think. I am sure that no one on bb would plagiarize someone else's work, one time........not to even think a million times.
In case you can't find a recipe you are looking for, there are (to many to count) food sites online that offer free recipes.
Jim Jones, and David Koresh were charismatic (and had developed a family type situation also). I see you onboard there in no time at all. That would be sad, as you seem to be straight forward, and upfront with your opinions. Enjoy your trip.

At first glance, I thought when you were referring to a "recipe" that it was some new terminology that I wasn't up on. After further investigation, I realized that they really do list recipes. I'm off to bid on "Mom's Perfect Sticky Buns" right now.

dadandmom ~
[q] I see you onboard there in no time at all. [/q]
My thoughts were like that until I read an email AG2 sent me the other day. I don't think he'll fall into the trap of "you're part of this family, work for us" like others who have gone there have.
You're right though about Jones and Koresh.
The more I read and the more I hear, the site reminds me of a cult site. People who have been very sweet and kind all of a sudden turn on others. I can't understand how one silly auction site can turn otherwise nice people into brainwashed vultures. Sorry to say it like that, but that's my opinion.
I'm posting there, but not listing anymore. I spent all my "funny money" on one purchase, sent the seller almost $100 in shipping to get rid of them, so I could leave free and clear after I ship everyone's items out and leave feedback.
AG2 - good luck to you. I sincerely hope you come back the same way you left. Brainwashing is very subtle and can take place without you even knowing it.

newguy, IMHO truth=facts and little of what I read seem like facts to me. A lot of the posts are very emotional and sound like anger and/or poking fun (bashing) more than facts. I just can't figure it out. Now, the posts where people are emotional and angry over a specific situation (like over on the ebay board) and where they are having problems like on the tech board ~ that I understand. I keep reading about Kool Aid and have been trying to figure out what that means...haven't a clue....kinda sounds like when I was real young and kids would call each other names or a bunch would gang up on someone. I just am puzzled and simply don't get it.
I like to read the boards to get info or try to find a solution to a problem I may be having but I just don't understand what the agenda is, that's all. Maybe someone can clue me in on why so much space is wasted on what doesn't seem like a poster having a specific problem or looking for help.
Inquiring minds want to know
I love this blue bouncy guy...wish AW would make a toy like him and sell them so I could buy some
what you have stated is exactly the kind of attitude that gets stated all of the time on the BidBay board.
Someone asks a question regarding the fluffed up numbers there, or reminds a person who posts a message about their numerous feedback that is is only 66 uniques out of 3500 and someone comes along and bashes them calling their post negative etc.
I have laid out the facts in this post and many others. If you don't believe me examine the site for yourself.
If you think those facts are "bashing" then that doesn't really say anything about me but the state of affairs at BidBay.
The reason these things get pointed out time and time again is due to the fact that the people on that site like to pat themselves on the backs for these accomplishments.
At one time they were proud of 1 million listings. The recipes auctions and one user ID accounted for more than 74%of the listings. Now their item count exceeds 2 million and the recipes and one user id accounts for 77% of the listings.
These are not things to celebrate. There is no silver lining. Most people see through these pumped up numbers and instead of creating a much needed user base that consists not only of sellers but buyers they turn people off and create mistrust.

Hi Everyone! I am here under a new name with Diana's blessings so there is no need to start the emails flying! Mtnmama I have seen MUCHO sucking up over at Bidbay and anyone that has not been booted off or ganged up on and run off over there has evidently either sucked up or stayed off the chat boards. Yes they DO have over 1 Mil recipes and they don't seem to care. The philosphy of one "well spoken college student" was "if you don't like them then just don't look". DUH!! Never mind that it makes Bidbay the laughing stock of auction sites. Just this morning I read over there where someone was questioning the numbers on the front and the CEO said that is how "all the auction sites list and count" . Someone else came in and insulted him and he didn't even realize it or that thread would have been GONE! Any new person who does not fall into their "cultish" ways, is immediately chastised and humiliated. What they did to AD was a crime almost! Brainwashing? One of the men who went to their BIG POW WOW last month would email be all the time complaining about them, but since he went, he has NOTHING but great things to say about KING GEORGE and the Bidbay Gang! And no his name does not start with a B.
So I have also told AG2 that I hope they don't win him over, buy him off, or give him koolaide.
Cheers!!!

alleycatpft...lol love the new name.
BTW Welcome back
I know exactly what person you are referring to that is now in BidBay's pocket so to speak.
The recipe thing is getting way out of hand.
I can't honestly believe that anyone could be proud of the fact that they are there or even defend their existence.
As a seller I want a site that I know buyers are going to be able to locate my items easily.
With that in mind you don't need all of that clutter, and you need a search engine that could locate that needle in the haystack so to speak. At this time the clutter remains and the search engine just doesn't cut the mustard for me.
This is going to be a turn off to potential buyers and anyone with any business sense would realize that and not defend the practice.

AG2, I oughta stop asking questions cause I just get more confused than ever. I do - off and on - come to the AW boards to get names of other auction sites. I rarely pay attention to what people are saying about them. I just write down the names and then go check them out myself. I got curious cause I never saw anything on the AW boards like this before.
So I read this thread very carefully again. Then I went to bidbay and hit recipe on the search engine...said 3106 listings. Then hit recipe(s)...said 248 listings. Many are cookbooks, which I find listed at most sites.
So I went to ebay and hit recipe on their search engine...said 1358 listings. Then hit recipe(s)...said 2114 listings...again some are cookbooks. I'm too tired to keep going to sites and doing that, so figured I'd just hit the big one...ebay.
As far as "under $1" and "bidbay bucks" that were mentioned, I often see items listed for $.01 and $.99 at ebay. I guees not everybody is a serious big time seller. I am a retired antiques dealer and I have seen that same type thing on other sites (actually several came through to me on email...must be harvesting ebay addys, I guess). So, some things that may seem a waste of time to some may be a past time, or fun to others.
As far as attitudes and people being nasty, there is one site mentioned on here sometimes that a few seem to like and I was unable to register (am WebTv). I emailed them asking if they were not WebTv compatible 3!!! times. No answer. I have gotten nasty replies sometimes from different sites (figure maybe the guy/gal is having a bad day or something). It's probably happening to others and I could post it and get something going...but what's the point? I just move on.
I am posting a few auctions now to a few other sites, including the one mentioned. I have had no problems except in navigating sometimes....friendly people, made some sales...no deadbeats on any of them yet. I do ebay also...mostly.
There are at least two auction sites I sure could post some "nasties" about, but I ask myself what would my purpose be? The answer to that tells me "just move on".
I oughta just stick to the ebay board where I read problems people are having so I have that info in case it happens to me....or the tech board where I read (sometimes post) problems in case that happens to me.
Maybe I don't work the search engines right, I don't know. I just simply do not get it. Gheesh, as far as rules and etc and all that stuff, ebay gets my vote. But I still do auctions there.
This post is too d*** long...sorry. Gonna go back to just reading and asking for help when needed and MMOB.
You wanna feel like a 2nd class citizen, get nasties and get yelled at? Get a WebTv and post your auctions from it
I give up..still don't know what the Kool Aid means and still don't understand the agenda here. So I will just consider it none of my business and keep doing what works for me.
But I love to post cause I love this guy
Wish AW would make toys of him and start another Cabbage Patch, Furby and Pokemon craze....now THERE'S an idea that could work

aramatha - to see all the recipe auctions you need to click on the "all categories" link on the front page. Right now there are 295,033 recipes in the $1 and Under category and 772,927 recipes in the Bidbay Bucks category. I wouldn't have a problem with this except THESE NUMBERS ARE INCLUDED IN THE TOTAL NUMBER OF LISTINGS which totally skews the numbers and gives an EXTREMELY false impression of this site.
1,067,960 - FIFTY-TWO PERCENT of the listings touted on Bidbay's front page - are for single recipes. In addition, I've seen at least one post on the Bidbay chat board from someone who bought recipes, the seller sent pages photocopied directly out of a cookbook. I've also seen recipe listings that state the recipes are EMAILED to the winner... they can't even be bothered to print it out and mail it so you actually get SOMETHING tangible for your money.

thanks, Joanne...at last a post I understand. And thanks, too, for giving me a bit of a tutorial in how to work search engines. I'm not a newbie, have been at ebay 1½ years and have trouble finding my way around there...not that I try much. Just launch auctions and don't bother much with anything else but their rules (which I learn mostly from these boards).
My experiences at that site and several others I started listing at have been positive...nice buyers...fast payers...people offering to help, so I never come across the other stuff....so just didn't know - or understand.
Thanks for straightening me out...but I shoulda minded my own business..read the boards and kept my hands off the keys
I just love to post this blue bouncy guy, tho...onset of senility, maybe?

Joanne...after this one, I am gonna superglue my fingers, but I just had to put this old brain to peace.
Now that I understand, the negatives are reprehensible. But ebay, as well as other sites, abound with them also.
To be fair, I went over to take a more thorough look at the site.
Has anyone not seen the positives there? People giving things away, the charity auctions, people that are genuinely nice? Fun things to do, also. I see little to none of that at most sites....most are just hard core business. I just read and looked around, but seems to fill a need for some that other sites don't.
Maybe not a place for big time power sellers but fills a niche for some.
And "cultish"? You gotta be kidding. If there are three things I know a lot about it is Amish things, cats and cults. Whoever said that perhaps found them "clannish". I wouldn't know.
As for recipes...I won't go there. Can't even begin to comprehend that one!
Now I shall superglue my fingers right after I do the blue bouncey guy

I don't think it's that they are genuinely nice. I think they're brainwashed (IMHO). Any time someone comes in that says something that doesn't sit well with the general public, they flame the guy. Not cool.

allycatpft -
I don't know who you were or are, but thanks for sharing.
I've been there for several months and like AG2, have been pretty vocal. I have opinions and share them. Some are unpopular, but the bashing and degrading I've received there is beyond words. People from other sites who know me better than anyone on BidBay know the truth about me. No one can harm me with words printed on a screen. They do try, oh they do, but in the end they come out stinking rotten. I'm not easily intimidated by those folks. Some of them have no auction experience whatsoever! This is their first stab at it. This is not the typical site!
I've spoken to the mighty George one time on the phone. He appeared charming and yes, even charismatic. I admit I got off the phone feeling 100% better about BidBay and their operation, however, as time went on and I didn't have any contact with him, I was relieved of that feeling. Sounds like a cult leader?
The contests aren't run properly. People who list page after page of recipes are doing so only for the contests and the same people win time after time (of course, within the "30 day" limit). Those that win, love the site. Those that don't stay hoping they'll win.
I keep asking what happens when fees are charged? Will these people still run recipe auctions? Betcha not.
Many are copied directly from books, a matter of copyright infringement, for which BidBay says "not their worry." Of course not, coming from a site that does enough infringement of their own.
I ran some homemade recipe auctions in the very beginning only because everyone else seemed to be doing that and I saw people winning digital cameras for it. But I never ran more than 10 and I quit doing it. It made no sense to me at all. I sold them for the funny money and that was it.
AG2, please please remember your roots when you go and don't fall prey to his charisma, or to his newest employee's cunning ways. She's sharp as a tack and will not hesitate to turn on you the first chance she gets. I've already felt her barbs and will never have anything to do with her again. Besides she overcharges on shipping.

ally, read the chat boards really well is all I can say to you. I'm not divulging anything on here, as I don't want to get personal and off topic.
dadandmom! LTNS or talk for that matter! Drop me a line sometime and we can schmooze. I miss ya! Thanks
Selling ad space to sellers in the newsletter. Nothing like spamming your user base. You buy space for as "low as" 5,000 emails or up to 4.5 million. Makes absolutely no sense to me.
But then I don't own an auction site worth over 1 million recipe auctions.

Go to any of the numbers on any item, Not there I figure that site has been in business for over a year, They should have things right by now. But they dont But remember there are some great people there

Auctongallery2 - I honestly don't understand you or your intentions.
I cannot find the particular thread now on Bidbay, (not surprising), but I did read a thread on the Bidbay chat board with the CEO and others welcoming you back, your saying in essence "glad to be back", Bidbayers saying "yep, there are problems but we're working on them", etc., etc. All in all, a very friendly interchange with absolutely no criticisms, protests or questions from you in any shape or form.
At least, some of the more loyal Bidbayers did express their disappointment that you were once again allowed on their board and I have to admire them for that.
I may make jokes about being senile, slow, forgetful, dumb, etc. but I can assure you I am none of those things and I do not "invent" threads on any board or misunderstand the comments made.
Your credibility is non-existent as far as I'm concerned. I don't believe one should
accept hospitality from a site, make nice with all the bigwigs, say "it's great to be back" and then go to another site and bash your hosts from here to Hahaira.
Bidbay CEO and management aren't the only people who suffer a lack of integrity as far as I'm concerned.
Not to mention I feel about as stooooopid as I've felt in a long, long time for thinking that you were sincere in your quest and offering you my support.
