As a former Yahooer, I'm trying out some of the alternative free auction sites.

I just posted a couple items on BidBay easily enough but I'm confused about "BidBucks"! BidBay says you have to earn BidBucks based on your rating/feedback but obviously you can sell items in the BidBucks category. I would assume that if you sell something for BidBucks thats another way to "earn" BidBucks.

There doesn't seem to be alot of listings in the BidBucks category AND some of the items seem to be listed for ridiculously large amount of "BidBucks". Example: A $10 stuffed animal is listed for $20 BidBucks.

Comments please!
Thanks,
Ethel

I don't list on BidBay but I've been looking around over there. I'm not sure if there's a set value for the BB Bucks or if it's the choice of the seller. You might have better luck asking on the Bidbay Cafe chat board on the Bidbay site.

Good Luck

Let me be a little more specific: I bought some coins at Bidbay for over 1500 bidbay bucks. When I did a search for the exact set on ebay, they listed at about $8.00 !! A Boyd's cat Walet at Bidbay went for over 500.00 bidbay bucks and it sells for about $5.99 in real money even on ebay. Got the picture?

BidBay Bucks are the alternative to cash, however, they don't equal the same.

I bought a watch there recently and it's worth oh I don't know maybe $10 or $15, made in China. I paid over 800 bidbay bucks for it. The reason was I wanted to be rid of them once and for all.

When you list in the category, you don't "earn" them, you sell your valuable items for however much people will bid. If they don't think it's worth anything, you won't get any bids.

Be warned though, if you try to leave and want to cash them in for real money (after all you did buy your items and could have sold them for real cash, right?)you won't get a dime. So if you want to consider that you're really giving your items away, I suppose that's the best way to look at it.
Otherwise, you'll drive yourself nuts!

Alright I admit there are flaws in the Bidbay "Funny Money". However, if you look you can find some excelent values. I recently got 3 carats of blue topaz that was appraized at Gordons Jewelers in St.Pete for for $199.00 only 103.00 bbb's and 4.35 shipping. There are cameras and scanners and well its like anything else when you sell on an auction. "You will get what people are willing to pay for that item". Don't know who said it, I read it somewhere though. And its true.

It depends on wether you have what a buyer wants in any category BidBayBucks or Cash and then it depends on how badly they want it.

one of the problems is Bidbay reserves the right to keep or take away your bidbay bucks at their discretion. And they do. I just lost some when they canceled me last week. I think I am one of very few who not only gets chat privs canceled but entire account. Maybe it was so I couldn't access proof on the image hosting money owed me, however I have a printed copy of their own invoice on that. It is like having your money in a bank with NO FDIC Insurance. Now I love to gamble but I am no idiot!

a little off topic here...

Was just thinking, maybe BidBay should get rid of the most harmful thing on their site and that is the chat boards.

They aren't help boards, because Lord knows, if someone not with the "in" crowd tries to help someone else, the person gets bashed for being nosy, etc.

They aren't like any other chat board I have ever seen on any auction site. They should change the name to Bash Board and give a warning to new users not to go there without feedback, auctions or a silly little me page.

That's my opinion. Back to the topic. Funny money as Teresa calls it vs real dollars.

I mentioned that idea to GT one of the times I spoke with him on the phone. He said they "have to have one, required by law"...and we all know they strive to be law abiding citizens.
If you think about it, without a chat board they wouldn't be anything at all.

That is what he told me but I knew better. He knows that without a chat board they cannot promote their propaganda.

Excuse me?

A chat board is required by law?

That's a new one - most of the sites don't have one. I want to see that law.

It is totally not required by law.

They have their own currency, why not their own laws? This way they can justify everything up to date. Wonder if the state of Pennsylvania will recognize the Constitution of BiBayvania.

Auctionguard:

Pennsylvania ?

Most corporations of any value are registered out of Delaware....Oh well, perhaps they do not need the tax breaks, as they use the bid bay bucks instead.

To keep on topic here, No they are worth nothing.

OH AG your claws are sharp today!! LOL at you! I suspect the reason he said Pennsylvania is because that is where they were banned from trying to sell their stock. But then maybe he meant "Transylvania!" LOL
