I have heard rumors of a new type of auction service similar to Napster/Gnutella. It is supposed to be the ebay killer. I am not sure what it is completely about or where it will go. But you noticed ebay inked a deal with microsoft last week. This is so they can try to get the jump on and keep up with companies developing peer-to-peer solutions. Peer-to-peer is supposed to be the future. I have a feeling this might be the technology that will change things.
The other scenario we may see is ebay directly built into Windows. This would be a real bummer.

After Bill and company spent the last couple of years in court over including Internet Explorer in Windows, I don't think that they would want to eventually go through the same thing again by adding eBay. But then again, Bill is a multi gazillionaire and I'm not, so I'm sure he knows what's best!

High speed internet access is suppose to be the present, but its still the future for most subscribers. Peer to peer is going no where until the vast majority of users have high speed access. Try the Gnutella web site or download "bearshare". Complete waste of time. (Also, would not recommend if you don't have an anti-virus program on your computer).

I think one of the other problems with peer-to-peer sales is that the chance of being taken on a deal can be greatly increased. If it was not done right, a user could open up shop, sell a bunch of worthless (or worse, non-existent) merchandise and disappear into the night. Just a thought...
