What are your thoughts on charities that are run from online auctions? and the legalities of such?

I was going to leave this on the previous thread, but it was locked before I finished typing lol... thank you for starting this one
MM
First please don't offer me any koolaide I despise the stuff. I just felt the need to defend this charity a bit. I have donated profits from auctions to them(I have the paypal receipts if anyone feels they need them) and they have helped someone that I know pay for the burial of their child. It saddens me that they are being bashed.. As for the legalities of it, I have to say I'm not sure about all of that. But they ARE helping people, and isn't that what's important?
Now as to the other site... am I a cheerleader? I suppose I could be called that. I feel they do have potential, but they are young and as with any of us we make mistakes and learn from them. I don't agree with everything that they do. I think people are censored a bit too much. And I think there is much room for improvement... But a cult? lol come on now.
Now to defend my post, since I have come from the other site I don't post here much because I don't have very many negative things to say. But I do read the board regularly and when I see fit to post I do.

Mtnmama I hope your feeling better, and I am so sorry you have had to deal with what you did on the other site, I do feel your suspension was unwarranted.

Perhaps you need to read this again."We know the name of the charity and it is not that we are afraid to post it here but that to my
knowledge, we are not allowed. I believe that is a very fine charity but am concerned when "Joe Blow" or
"Jane Blow" says "I am auctioning off a widget and half the money will go to *************. Who audits
that to see if indeed half the money went? How much money was taken in? There is too much room for
cheats in this type of charity auction. The original charity is great and is legal and helps many, but the
"outreach" so to speak, charities are not good and leave too much room for cheats. I also believe that
the records of any non profit organization are supposed to be public record. Ask Rev. Jackson!"

Batman,
I was not referring to your post, as I agree with what you posted.. As for people saying that they are donating money and then not doing it.. I think its awful. I was replying to those that insinuated that this charity is fraudulent in some way.

Well Lady pOE, I didn't read the locked thread yet, but I can tell you that I have donated to that charity and never received a receipt, which to me is bogus.

As far as being suspended, I don't care. I'd rather not be associated with the site. People I've sent there in the past have been
turned off by the ignorance of many of the others.

What Batman is saying is how do you really know your money went to bury someone's child.
Did you receive a statement to that effect? I think not. Anyone can say charity and blah blah goes here or there and then pocket the money. Not saying that they do pocket the money, but I would like receipts for my donations!

Mtnmama,
The money for the childs burial, was for an aquaintance of mine. The money didn't come from just me. I was sent an e-mail stating that the money was sent to the funeral home. They did ask for addresses for confirmation as well as phone numbers etc. I asked for help for someone and it was given As for the receipts, I agree that if you request one it should be given. Again I don't know much about the legalities, just that they are good people trying to do what they can to help.

I have seen this particular organization help alot of people. These people give from their hearts and I think it's sad that they would even be expected to defend themselves against such allegations.I am sure they are a legimate organization.I could be wrong, but I think before they were involved with BidBay they did the same thing on Ebay.Do you think a company as big as Ebay didn't ask for some kind of verification? You have to get permission to list a charity auction.I don't know details, but I'm sure this is so they can keep track of how much money is made and what their percentage should be.

I don't believe anyone is saying the CHARITY is crooked, just that some crooked people use it as a cover for personal gain.

pOE and Tavonsmom

If they're legit, let them prove it to those who donated. They refuse to submit papers to so called "nutcases" online, yet it's those very "nutcases" they solicit for money. Well, we may be nutcases, but we're not stupid!

I want receipts.

pOE I'm sorry about your friend's child. I'm sure they sent you money for the funeral. I'm also sure I sent money to someone else on there who cried about her daughter being deathly ill until her daughter got herself a brand new computer from BidBay! Yep, never heard another word after that. Not even a public thank you TO BidBay from the daughter who supposedly is online. Who to believe after that? Not a one of them.

I am not ashamed to use my name here it is in full for all of you: Barbara Leccese so go kick me off for using it. When I receive the cancelled check from the funeral parlor I will be happy to send you a copy. It was made out to them directly for $100 and I will post it wherever anyone wants to see it.

As far as resale of items personally bought by MY FRIEND AND FELLOW worker she does not have to account to anyone what she does with it once she OWNS it. As for my co-hort in New Mexico let me stop laughing. Ooooh my a dirty conspiracy to help bury a child and put food in the mouths of those that can't afford it.

And why don't you pick on someone who hasn't just lost their dad LYNN. Even this is beneath you.

I came here to defend an injustice and signed up to do so. Geez I guess thats against the law too.

How laughable you poor souls really are.
Outta here.

Hey I just thought of that daughter the other day and wondered why nobody ever heard from her after she got the computer and access to online. Funny the whole family just faded away.

Mtnmama,
Please let me clarify, they did NOT send me the check one member of the other site did run an auction and offer to send me one but I told her to send it to the charity instead,For the very reason that was stated, I did not want to be accused of taking money that was not intended for me.
I don't know about the sick child that was given the computer, so I wont speak on it. I always thank people (usually too much lol as Paula can attest to) when they do something that warrants one.

Might I add that Paula e-mailed me many times asking about the mother and family of the boy, sending her prayers.
Thank you mtnmama for your sympathies also

It seems Rangerlover has one passion today and that is to destroy me. Whether she has done this at the direction of the BidBay CEO or not, I don't know.

This has nothing to do with someone losing their dad or posting cashed checks to funeral homes.

This has to do with proving a charity is legitimate, which can't be done here. I want paperwork, so I guess that makes me a nutcase.

Rangerlover, on the other hand, loves to kick people when they're down, so no more is expected of her at this point in her life.

pOE that daughter was no child, she was grown and married and didn't even have the courtesy to thank BidBay when she got online with THEIR computer.

Batman, the whole family hasn't faded, they're there under different ID's, both husband and wife. Wife thinks that if she uses several ID's people won't know who she is Husband is just following wife's directions. I feel sorry for him almost. Almost being the keyword.

Moderator, Rangerlover has registered here today for the sole purpose of humiliation as well as issue personal insults. Is this allowed?

We're discussing the merits of online charities and the legalities of such and she rushed in to try to defame me.

Go to ebay's front page where the charity links are listed, and Clicking on some of them and you will see they are registered.....

Click on Make A Wish Foundation and you will see how a REAL CHARITY IS RUN, that ALL monies MUST BE ACCOUNTED FOR, and EACH STATE that money is raised in HAS DIFFERENT RULES. ALL Information MUST BE MADE AVAILABLE when it is asked for.

Registered Charities have special forms, laws they must follow to meet needs for the people they represent/ animals too have charities (PETA - a non profit organization, most major zoo's, sea worlds etc.

Your charity is just plain and simple NOT REGISTERED. Where would someone write for a RFP for your charity? Where can someone get a copy of all mission statements, etc? Where would someone get a copy of the financial statement?

When I asked, I was told not to harass these people....and told by 2 different people, including your little hitler.

Yep! A Real Charity... NOT LOL.....

With all due respect. If rangerlover has come in to post on something she or the organization she's part of was bashed, how can anyone question why she has posted or registered? In all seriousness, I think the timing is really bad to be having a discussion about an individual who everyone knows is unable to defend herself. And to discuss an organization, "ACCUSE" them of doing wrong, then getting upset that they posted in their defense? I really can't believe some of the things I have read here today. All I have to say is, Rangerlover, I am sorry you are on this fight alone. I believe in your organization and I have seen the wall and letters of thanks from the families the organization has helped. I also have come accross the many individuals the individual who cannot post today has helped out of her own pockets. I can only hope that you guys keep up the good work and continue to help many people. I believe that if you trully want to help another person, you don't do it because you want a receipt, or something back. You do it, because you want to see good things come to others. But then again, that is my opinion, and mine only.
Thank you and stay strong, Barb.

mtnmama,
I have deleted one of your posts because it contained what I presume is an auction ID which is a violation of our Community Guidelines.
This thread has become disruptive. I'm going to lock it. Please do not start another thread concerning this subject.
