I think it's cute. Here is the story line:Here is the Story:
BoomBoom belongs to a poor gardner. FiFi belongs to a rich Lady.
As BoomBoom sees FiFi he whistles and asks her how she became rich. She tells him that her owner sells and buys on Bidbay.com.
He then complements her on her dog tag. She tells him if his owner registers with Bidbay, he'll get one just like it for free.
He then asks her on a date. She replies that he is not up to her standard.
Months go by. They meet up again. This time he is in the Hummer. She asks him what happened, surprisingly. He responds that his owner is now selling on Bidbay. She also comments him on his tag, he thanks her for the prior info. She then asks him on a date. The commercial ends with a puzzled look by BoomBoom, and a voice over comes on instructing the viewer to log on to Bidbay in order to find out if BoomBoom accepts FiFi's date offer. And, to get a free tag.

mymylove,
Most everyone at AuctionWatch knows how much I enjoy taking a look at "information" like you've given and doing some rough calculations (guesstimates) to get an idea of what's really going on.
So let's take a look.
Your list has 671 unique bidders for the month. BidBay claims 4,000,000 members, so what's the participation level?
(671 / 4,000,000) x 100 = 0.017%
UGH!
I added up the "entries" for the first 116 unique bidders and found they had made a total of 1,037 bids.
So how many bids did the entire group make?
(671 x 1,037) / 116 = 5,998 bids
Let's say 6,000 bids to make the math simple.
BidBay claims 898,000 items, but how many items over a month?
898,000 x 4 = 3,592,000 items.
So what's BidBay's sell-through rate?
(6,000 / 3,592,000) x 100 = 0.17%
CAN'T GET MUCH CLOSER TO ZERO!
And don't forget, a significant number of this buying and selling is done with something called BidBayBucks. The actual sell-through rate is much less.
Those with minimal expectations are no doubt thrilled with statistics like this; I'm not the least bit impressed.

I try to refrain from posting anything about BidBay because I've never used the site--but, I am registered there. After seeing everything that goes on over there I don't even want to participate in buying or selling at BidBay. But, that's just my opinion.
Anyway, the dog is cute, but that pink sure does clash with the red car! LOL

Rather than having yet another discussion locked, due to what I see as an oversight by a "newbie," I'd certainly rather see (a) a link to the page or (b) the substitution of "6,000 bids by 671 users" for the list itself.

As far as BidBay ever being anything more then a spoiled rich boys chat board play-toy, It had possibilities, good features, easy for users to use and image hosting, unfortunately, the site's feature's for users have never stayed working long enough for members to not have legitimate complaints, from everything, I have read and observed, and AW members, need to be made aware of the facts:
The CEO and his staffers, have trolled these very boards, its all a game, not an auction site, hard telling who is not a paid staffer, multiple user names, favoritism, staffers winning contests, N.H sure is a lucky state, unjustified moderations, members being suspended, for answering directly to CEO's very own questions, guess, he doesn't like dissenting opinions.
Supposed 4 million members, read their contest board, around 1200 active members only there, and that is with new memberships, as they expell, the founding members. They gave away 26 millionaire listing status to members for listing fees, only 9 responded to a thread about, who is left, the writings on the wall, you just have to read it, a little dictatorship, for sure.
Many members from here and elsewhere have tried the site, most left within a months time or less, no bidders, and the way they moderate, and treat existing and new members, its easy, to see why.
Sorry this is so long, needed saying by someone, guess its me, luck to everyone.
Members beware BidBay, enter at your own risk. Should be posted at the top of this page and their little show, P.T.Barnum, look out, there's a new show afloat and its all about one man's pockets, getting filled with someone elses money.

I thought this thread was about a pink poodle in a commercial for another auction site. But....as soon as the "other auction site" is mentioned and it is Bidbay, the bashing starts. Why???
I've sold there, I've bought there, both cash and bidbay buck auctions.
No problems. But I don't get involved with personalities and chat boards. (I consider this board a Forum....big difference). I go to an auction site to sell/buy. So no problems. I don't have much there now, but I don't have much now anywhere....I'm "in between" right now, having to get another batch of pics ready for sites (plural) and listings.
Back to the topic of this thread.... the pink poodle commercial. It is a very clever idea according to the description of the commercial posted here. It's gotta be a winner. Why? Because Madison Avenue has long known that animals and babies catch a viewer's eye and attention much quicker on a commercial than anything else. Animals and babies "sell"....cute idea.

Hi!
Although I agree that the pink poodle did clash with the red, I thought the idea behind the commercial was cute and as such, I would be interested to see the completed commercial. A lot of industries non-pet related have used pets very successfully in their commercials, so hopefully this will do some good for BidBay.
Regarding people's other comments, I don't want to start a fight or be argumentative but I did want to express my personal experiences with bidding/sales at the site. Before anyone makes a false assumption, I just wanted to state that I am not a BidBay employee or independent contractor and I list and sell at many sites. My motivation like so many is to sell profitably and consistently.
In my experience at BidBay, I have run into a lot of first time auction buyers who have subsequently ended up making multiple repeat purchases. Most of my BidBay buyers are people who choose the "BuyItNow" option which never shows up in the site's bidding stats.
I think success at BidBay (and many sites, especially free listings sites) really depends on what you sell, how you price things, how you personally market to past customers and how you present your wares. I'd love to see bidding activity there pick up and I, as well as others, try to constructively suggest proven marketing techniques to bring in more targeted buyers.
I do auctioning, website sales, business to business sales and mail order full-time, so naturally BidBay is not the only venue I use but I have made quite a bit of profit there in the past year and have had many positive experiences. I had about 35 cash bids in the period of 3 weeks and although it's slowed down again, every sale is money and I certainly welcome the new business. Things run in cycles there for me. I can't speak for others but a lot of success depends on what you sell and how marketable it is to begin with.
There are those that would post that the "only" bidding at the site is in their BidBayBuck section. That's just not true. Granted, the majority of the bidding of the chat cafe's regulars takes place there, but the majority of the SITE's bidding is on cash items.
There is a link on the site where you can see the names of the bidders for the entire month. Can I post it here? If I can't someone can please edit it out.
http://www.bidbay.com/contest/monthly/bidders.cfm
Please note that BuyItNow bidding is NOT reflected on this list and from the people I've spoken with, many of their cash bids are with the BuyItNow option. So when you look at the bidding stats, you have to factor in that none of the the instant sales have counted within that number.
Some people will say that these bidders are just bidding to win a contest. I hardly think that people who bid 1-6 times are there to play games. Most of the bids on this list are from people who have never visited the chat cafe, obviously don't have bidbay bucks to spend and are bidding on cash items. Sure, statistically it is a minute amount of bidding compared to eBay but it is activity and among all the free sites out there, it's a fair start. The site admits it is in its infancy stage and we all have to learn to crawl sometime.
Like many sellers there, I would love to see the bidding activity pick up. I'd love to see more targeted advertising to buyers and sellers who read trade/collectibles publications. I'd love to see less complaining on the chat board and more constructive ideas. However for a site that doesn't cost me money to list at, it has produced more sales for me so far than any of the other free listings sites. (I don't include Yahoo which changed to pay this year.)
If you can get past the melodrama which often takes place in the chat among some of the disgruntled, it can be a viable venue if you sell certain items. It's a great buyer's market for certain things too. I've spent quite a bit of cash there on packing supplies and unique gifts. Check out the site's seller list and there are some great deals to be had at the site!
Most buyers don't ever frequent a chat room. When I ask my new BidBay buyers how they heard about me, it was generally either through search, a link in from another auction site, a referral or a link from my website. Now granted, these new buyers are much more likely to shop and not use the feedback system as much but they are there.
I know this is lengthy and I apologize but I did want to present my own experiences just to show another side of things to people who might be curious about the site.
Good luck to everyone in your sales/bidding, no matter where that might be. The more we can all sell on auction sites (alternative or not), the better it is for the industry as a whole.
Respectfully,
Karen

Back on topic, Pink Poodles, Is there really such a thing, as pink poodles, I believe not, maybe pink skinned, but pink fur ??????????
As far as on topic, their last commercial really aired, caught peoples eyes, In the Los Angeles Area, unfortunately for BidBay however, of the 5 people I asked, (that I could find, out of about 35 asked, only aired on cable), they said it was a catchy commercial, however, when asked If they would join the site, all were adamit In saying no, were not that Interested.
JMO, this commercials will have the same results, nothing, but wasted money.
The Rose Bowl Is close to BidBay's Headquarters, like 20 minutes away, yet this 1 year and 31/2 month old company does not go to one of the areas biggest Antique & Collectables shows, held every 3th Sunday at the Rose Bowl, or Advertise there, wonder why not, maybe some live bodies showing up, would change things there. ?????????

gheesh, I guess you have to make a post 3 pages long for some people to "get it".
If little ole country girl me, who ran her own business for 25+ years but could never afford to use Madison Avenue to advertise it...it doesn't take a brain surgeon to pattern one's advertising from the success of Madison Avenue commercials. One must read what is going on in the world, however, to know these things. They then can then do it themselves.
I never used dogs...always used cats and even had 2 pet ones at the shop. Even ran my ads in the "trades" with cats. When one died, even ran that in the trades (in memory of) cause so many thousands of people from all over the world (buyers through the years) cared.
Would love to see a thread started re why some use LOL, ROTFL, ROTFLMAO negatively, to attack, belittle, etc. Many times it is oh, so obvious what it really means. ROTFL? I doubt it..more like or
Oh, I gotta turn my automatic ignore button back on so as not to catch the negative spirit cause this forum and site is the best one I've found for info, news and help...
sorry, but sometimes (fortunately only a few), it really sounds like kids in a playground yelling "nanh, nanh, nanh, nanh, nah". Sad for such a great forum.

Pink poodle, eh? Dyed her natural white fur/hair pink? Wonder how the animal rights activists feel about this one?
dadnmom, I believe your specialty is reporting stuff like this. You know who to call and who to write to in California better than anyone.
I would never dye my dogs fur for a commercial. How gross!

Mtnmama~~I agree with you totally; however, I saw a telly commercial just today with a standard size pink poodle whose fur was dyed to match a woman's suit. I can't remember exactly what the commercial was for, for some reason I'm thinking Verizon. The commercial has been airing for months now...

I've never seen that commercial, but that one too is another case for the ARA. Two wrongs never did make a right.

I was wondering the same thing about the Cruise across America advertising. I know that money had to have been lost on the car (I believe it brought around 20,000 and that included airfare to pick it up), plus an employee to drive it across America and the GAS, room and meals, the miles put on the car towing, etc....Did this blitz bring bidders? I would guess, NO because the sellers are complaining, besides I think the bidders were all Kool-Aid Kids!
Now, this commercial only aired in the state of California. What is wrong with this picture? EVERYTHING
posted on May 11, 2001 06:56:33 AM new
Look at it this way, we didn't have to be subject to such foolishness of this commercial. There's enough junk on the TV without having to sit through two dogs buying and selling on BidBay.
Two dogs? Did I say that? LOL! Let the truth be known! The site has gone to the dogs.
As far as the Cruise Across (parts) of America, (because they didn't hit all states), that was a farce. It was an all expense paid vacation for several of his favorite users (mostly female).
I don't think with all his graciousness and trust that my husband of 22 years would rejoice if I took someone else's car across half the the U. S. and was gone for two or more weeks. For those husbands that let their wives participate, well all I can say is they must need the money awfully bad or they must have needed the freedom of being married even worse. And the kids - how does one explain to young children that mom thinks more of BidBay than them?

I know my husband or children would not have approved! But then, I would not have wanted to go. At first, the people were going to actually be able to drive the car, (could have been cool) but then it turned out that they could ride in an Expedition and tow it! LOL
Whooppee!
You are right, I am glad I wasn't subject to that commercial. Although, a good laugh is good for the soul.

Hmmm...actually, there is no law against using dye to change the color of an animal's hair or fur. If there was, especially in CA, most companies that produce movies would have been sued into Bankruptcy a long time ago. Anyone remember the dog from the Little Rascals movie? A painted circle I believe it was, the powdered white ape in Ace Ventura 2 that also had war paint on, not to mention the various animals in movies and TV shows that have dye and makeup applied to them on a regular basis.

About the Cruiser:
Here's the facts. How do I know? Because as some have pointed out, I had a hand in the planning of it. The male to female ratio of Bidbay staffers that went on the trip was 3-3. The last time I checked that was a dead even tie. There was no gender preference.
The reason the PT was towed is because of the simple fact that a new vehicle is no longer new after thousands of miles are put on it.
As far as the female staffers participated in the trip for a week or more, their children were well taken care of by their fathers, relatives, and friends alike. The staffers were in daily contact with their families, the staffers could return home immediately at Bidbay's expense in case of an emergency or any other reason, and I would be remiss if I did not point out that parents, be they women or men, do travel for occupational purposes. I see no viable reason to criticize someone for doing their job.
Besides, isn't it a violation of the CG's to openly discuss persons that cannot come here and defend their positions?

"Because as some have pointed out, I had a hand in the planning of it". Oh you mean as Navigator??
Well I agree that yes it is against the CG's to come here and discuss people who cannot defend themselves. Too bad that rule does not apply on the Bidbay Board.
Shoot me but I am a big fan of Dr. Laura Schlessinger and must agree with her (hence the username mykidzmom)....I think family comes first, at least for me. I can only speak for myself but personally I would never go off and leave my children when they were small, job or not. They are my responsibility, not that of my neighbors and friends. I am all for a Moms Day Off but two weeks, even a week? I don't believe in it personally. I did print out and send Dr. Laura the chat format from the BB Board regarding that. She mentioned it on her show, without mentioning the Bidbay Name. It is a sad day when we have kids and they are not first in our lives.
---This disclaimer is to say that I am not pointing fingers or naming names or getting personal except to give my own opinion as to what matters the most for me.---and that WILL be my last comment on the subject. Have a PEACHY Day everyone!!!
